Default When Worlds Collide: Nissan GT-R vs Bentley Continental Supersports

Quote:
You know the drill by now. So far, we've stacked the Nissan GT-R against the Corvette ZR-1, Ferrari 599, Porsche 911 Turbo GT-2, Shelby GT500 Super Snake, and even two Scion tC drift machines. Next on Godzilla's menu: a monstrously powerful, outrageously expensive sports coupe from Bentley.
Bentley? Are we insane? Not really, but take a quick run through the specs and decide for yourself:

Anything jump out at you? Forget the ridiculous power and torque coming from the Bentley's twin turbo W-12. Instead, look at the weight to power ratios of both cars. Yup, each is saddled with 8.0 pounds per pony, despite the thousand pound difference in weights. Both are also surprisingly close in size -- the Supersports is six inches longer, but the GT-R has 1.3 inches more between the wheels. They both also have fancy, rear-drive biased awd systems and sticky, low profile rubber on twenty-inch wheels.

So, who is going to win in this battle of rocket versus refinement? The gentleman or the hooligan? Watch the video below and then head to page two for a complete rundown of the performance numbers.

It's pretty self-explanatory, but here are a couple of points worth highlighting: Despite weighing just under 5000 pounds, the Supersports gets out of the hole substantially quicker than Godzilla. Rewind the video and check out Crewe's missile's brake-torque'd explosion at launch. All 590 pound-feet of thrust keep the big Bentley ahead of the GT-R but only until 50 mph. All that Continental mass just can't keep up with the fast closing Nissan -- which has the added advantage of a slick shifting dual clutch transmission.

Through the traps, it's GT-R by a nose: only two tenths quicker and $186,000 cheaper than the Supersports. It is an impressively, exotic beast, but still no match for Godzilla.

It's funny that they did this test because I drove the Conti Supersports a month or so ago and described it as a really fancy GTR.

Nothing *stock* is as fast as the GTR for the money. We get it. The horse is dead M/T. I wonder if they were sitting around the office one day playing with P/W/R numbers and found the SS Bentley and GTR to be exactly the same. Lightbulbs clicked, car nerd journalists rejoiced and hugged, phonecalls were made, and bam, a thread on NASIOC.

I think there should be a "GTR" subforum on N/R. Along with a "hybrid car" subforum, "American Muscle" subforum, and "political/industry" subforum.

Stupid ****ing comparison. This horse has been beat to death. GTR and Ken Block posts are about the same in number
