HTC Droid Eris

I've been reading the Droid thread, since a lot of stuff is common between the Droid and Eris, and noticed someone got ass reamed for asking about something related to the Eris in there.

So currently it seems the big news is the release of Android 2.1 for the Eris. Some people have reported that it's mistakenly gone out OTA and wiped their data. So back up your stuff Eris owners.

I have the droid eris...im not too impressed. I cant seem to delete texts in mass....

I had great hopes for the eris. Run multiply apps. But keep having forced closed. Waiting to get the recent updates cause still thinking I'll lose all my info.

Force Close is the worst. I had 1600+ txts between me and my friend and Iv tried to delete the thread multiple times with no success

Phone seems good to me...

is there a backup program that will keep all info in tact upon restore?

I don't want to lose my contacts...

When you back out of apps, are you using the back key or the home key? If you use the home key, it will leave the apps resident in memory, and you'll eventually run out.

Get My Backup Pro to back up your stuff.

My Backup Pro. But your contacts should be synced with your gmail account, unless you label them as "phone".

The root is coming. Devs have found an exploit but are working out the payload.

Since "Droid" is the name of the whole product line and not just one phone, why can't the other Droid thread encompass all of the Droids?

There's also a general Android thread.

Since there are currently about 20 android devices on the market and about fifty or so coming soon, if there is a thread for each one of them they are gonna need their own sub-forum.

IIRC it was originally called the Motorola Droid thread I believe.

That's stupid. Warranty issues aside, one thing Google did that was extremely nice about my phone is one button unlocking/rooting out of the box. It really advances development with the phone. After less than a couple of days the first custom ROMs were available.

I hope it sets a precedent that people should be able to do what they want with the hardware they paid good money for.

i told it to never sync w/ gmail... if you don't you will get everybody you ever sent an email to in your contacts on your phone...

took hours to delete all of the people I didn't want on there...

so will my backup pro handle the contacts?

I'm no phone junkie, so what is this root stuff? lol

Actually, if you move the contacts you care about into a separate group or groups, and then tell the Eris not to sync with "All Contacts", then it will only sync the ones in "My Contacts", which is where your groups are kept.

I believe My Backup Pro will back up all contacts on the phone.

Root = root access like in Unix/Linux. It enables all kinds of shenanigans. It's the equivalent of jailbreaking the iPhone. It allows you to overclock the processor, run custom ROMs, etc.
