Default Using 2008-2010 stock speaker basket - Spacing for front speaker upgrade

I have just installed some Focal 165A1's into my 2008 Impreza using the stock speaker basket with a 1/2" spacer on it. The window does not hit the magnet, but the door card is not flush anymore and it makes it a little hard to shut the door.

Can the stock spacer/basket allow enough space for the window without the spacer? I am pretty sure I require atleast a 1/4"-1/2" spacer, can anyone confirn this?

I would like to be able to use the door pins without getting the extended ones, and also be able to close my door with ease. I'm afraid im going to have to start modifying the door card so the speaker does not make so much contact with it but I want to confer with you guys to see if there is a different solution.

I think this information is going to help us 08+ owners that are facing the same situation... Most of the speaker spacing information we can refer to currently is for other model years 07 and down. Thank you

As far as I know, you can run a speaker depth in the stock location of 2". You should be able to use an MDF speaker ring if 1/4". This will give you a 2.25" clearance without it hitting the window. Being that the Focals are 3.6" deep, it would be close.

I want to announce that in my 2008, I needed NO SPACING to install my Focal 165A1's. All I had to do was dremel out the old speakers and screw them into the stock speaker baskets.

I had 1/2" spacers on them initially but the speaker was touching the door panel causing it to protrude out from the door. I checked the window clearance and I still had over an inch to the window...

I hope this helps someone

Sweet deal...

A lot of cars now a day have plastic basket speakers, so a lot of them get used just like you did... I know my DD Pontiac Vibe is like that.. and almost every install i've seen on them, they use the stockers for spacers..
