We have over 100 stage miles and the Palo Verde College spectator stage is right beside the service area...so you can not get any better then that except the corner they take at the other spectator stage which is mention on the event website...but love to have you guys come out and help at

Controls Start and Finish we still need a couple more people to help start cars and help at the finish of a stage....

This is the Seventh Running of the event...and becoming very successful and we are to be recognized/considered to be a Rally America national event for the future...

We do still have a couple of gaps at 2 stages at a start and a finish...so
please do sign up and if you come out Friday evening go by to the Blythe
Fire Dept. We are doing a parc expose in front and the fire-fighters do know
how to cook...and it goes to a good cause...

See all the cars and meet the competitors...

Default Still Need a Few More Volunteers...Help...

We are still in need of volunteers for the Desert Storm rally which is March 13/14, 2010. It is headquartered ted in Blythe, Ca. We use Riverside County roads and Arizona -La Paz County roads. It is a 2 day event and we are still in need of certain areas to be taken care of to make the event successful. We have over 25 entrees for the event. We do make it fun for the volunteers.

We always have a event shirt, some Subaru swag, a drawing for some gift certificates, free volunteer lunch on Saturday and you are welcome to a Mexican food buffet at the awards ceremony on Sunday after the final stage is done which is approximately about 2:00 p.m. We may even pay for your Spaghetti dinner on Friday night after you volunteer register at Capital Suites.

What do I have to do?
Sign up via the event website under the worker tab. www.desertstormrally.com
We need people to help out at a start or finish time control stage. This is a really fun area due to you get to watch them come in or start and meet the competitors upfront/close.

Also need people to work sweep which is you get to go onto a hot stage being in the back of the competitors to sweep the course..you would need a truck or a 4wd SUV. Be apart of the fun to run the stages with the competitors. We will instruct you on Friday evening on what to do.

Also still need some people to help out as a sand wash hooker which means if you have a 4WD truck or SUV to get rally cars through a sand wash with a tow strap you WILL be a hero to them... just put under the comments I would like to be a sand wash hooker for Saturday and or Sunday but really need a couple of people for Saturday at this one area less of a 4 th of a mile to make sure the rally cars get through this one transit road that is not ours that gets graded but a little bit sandy.

Any licensed ham operators out there we still need about 6 more to help out....we need you for a blockage or if you like we can use non-ham people to block a road on a course and use a FRS radio.
You can watch the guys...this would be a good Saturday only task if you cannot do it for Sunday.

What do I get? Food? Lodging? Transportation?

You get a event shirt, SUBARU swag, a chance for 2 $50.00 drawings for non-ham personnel and 2 $50.00 drawing for ham licensed personnel. This is done at the awards ceremony on Sunday. we will have a free lunch personalized for you by our Volunteer Registrar with a sandwich, drink and you can get in for free at the I-10 Speedway to spectate in Blythe later that evening to watch the rally cars run the track for their super-special and a low cost eating of hot dog or hamburger and a drink of your choice.
Watch Bondeleros, Legends and Midgets and then rally cars from the Desert Storm Rally.

We do have the Days Inn who has rooms since the headquarters hotel is totally booked. They are offering a rally rate of $59.99 for a single queen bed and a $69.99 for a two queen beds and all rooms have a sofa and loads of amenities. Find that information under lodging.

What does it involve?
You yourself and transportation but we can put you with someone else if you like to ride along with your team. Do note that the roads are graded and hard packed but they are dirt roads.

How many days?

We have different varied task that starts from Thursday to Sunday. You can sign up through those days or sign up for Saturday or Saturday/Sunday..we really do need people for Saturday but love to have you for both days as well.
We have volunteers registration on Friday starting at 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 pm and then 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at the Capital Suites in Blythe, Ca (check the event website of where to go) AND you can go to watch the rally cars be shown off at the City of Blythe Fire Dept and eat a really nice Spegetti Dinner that the fire fighters cooked up for a good cause and the cost is about $5.00 for a full course meal made low cost for the volunteers, etc. Check the General event Schedule for times and we will have the dirrections placed on the website to how to get the fire department from Capital Suites. If you come in early to register at Capital Suites WE will PAY FOR YOUR VOLUNTEER DINNER that evening at the fire department! Sign up and more info on that...

What hours?

Thursday and Friday varies throughout the day and we might help you with some of the lodging for those days...

Saturday it is all day but your teams will vary to go out to the stages...since the California roads are about 40 miles out from Blythe and so your stage captain will be talking to you about when you will be going out and we have a volunteer meeting on Friday evening to go over information and you meet your team and how you are going out.... for Saturday and for Sunday if you can help both days.

Am I going to be stuck at the same place all day?

You will be put into position to make sure all controls, blockages and spectator areas are set-up and ready. Once green light sweep has gone through and told the coast is clear for you to shut down your area..either you will move to another areas or that is it for you that day and come on in and relax as said for Saturday to go and watch the competitors run at the track later on that day or go to do whatever you like....

What specific jobs are available?

As stated...
*Start/Finish timing controls
*FRS Radio blockage (you can bring your own FRS radio or we will provide)
*Licensed Ham road Blockage operators (you communicate to net control or your communication captian)..you get to use your ham equipment.
*Spectator Team marshals..you are helping to make sure public are parking their cars correctly and staying within the barrier tape to stay safe to watch the cars go by...
* Sand Wash Hookers: need a tow strap and a 4WD truck or SUV to help out if any competitor get stuck in this one sand wash that could be alittle bit sandy..and you be the HERO.

Can I request a specific job? Of course, you need to know what the jobs are.

Yes..you can request what you like to do and when/what days you can do....prefer both days but Saturday is critical due to it is the large portion of stages are done on Saturday on the California side and shorter stages on Sunday so that people can come in and enjoy the buffet or you can go home from there.

What are the physical requirements? Is there a lot of walking? driving? waiting, sitting? standing?

Not a lot of physical requirements or walking. Driving you could be out on th furtherest stages. on Saturday about 40 miles down to 10 miles away from Blythe and on Sunday the Arizona stages about the same the furtherest between 40-10 miles away depending upon which stages you are assigned to.

Waiting could be about 1-2 hours before the first car gets to a control or come through the stage BUT you will be doing cross checks to make sure everything is up and running and the time fly’s fast..guarantee.

You can sit which for licensed hams and/or FRS radio blockages you will be with your car or truck blocking a road or intersection.

Standing will be only for start and finish controls but you will be having so much fun with the competitors coming through...you will not notice it..but for the waiting for them to get there you have time to sit down and enjoy the desert and during this time of the year..it is really nice.

So if you are interested just go onto www.desertstormrally.com and look it over and then sign up which is on the workers tab and we will get you assign to a fun task and watch the rally cars...

This year we have several Subaru's competing and Lauchlin O'Sullivan (4th place X Gamess Ralliest in 2006) in a prepared Vermont Sports Car and with a highly modified Camero by Jim Morris and a USRC Champion Keith Jackson. and so many more powerful competitors.

Any questions, do not hesitate and ask....marymountdenise@aol.com...
We have loads of fun and come out and enjoy a weekend of motorsports...once you sign up we will be giving you more information. Thank you.
