Just run your old oil through a strainer and save yourself $25.

5 Quarts Amsoil + Wix Filter = much better.

If I had to choose I'd go the M1 route because M1 is everywhere, and oil consumption issues seem to be hit or miss (and possibly user error). I used M1 once after using Amsoil and I didn't like it (and the car ate 1 quart in 2,000 miles whereas it consumed 1 quart Amsoil in 6,000 miles).

I'm trying to imagine the reactions if you wrote that in the Maintenance forum where most people change oil at the same time they fill up gas.

Don't forget that I don't have a turbo engine, so I don't really need synthetic oil anyways, not that most turbo engines need it either.
Amsoil is quite a bit pricier than the stuff in this thread.

I voted the Penzoil and Pureone. That's what I use and it works for me.

mobile 1 and OEM filter

not that every subaru dealership would tell you that or anything. or all 5000 threads in the newbies section (since you don't have a turbo, mobile 1 will do fine... although i'm sure it'll do fine on a turbo'd motor as well)

Mobil 1 sucks. Buy the Pennzoil PLatinum and Pure 1.

Agreed, that's why I put up the latter half of the reply I also have non-turbo (2.5i) but I plan on keeping this car running as long as possible so I use synth for everything when replacing.

I'm spoiled getting it at a 33% price reduction through my father's business (works out to be 6$ a quart)

I'm kinda leaning towards that option or Quaker State, I've never used either of those brands, but Pure One is a good filter and price is really good.

If I posted this in the Maintenance forum, 90% of replies would be that Mobil 1 sucks for WRX and I don't even have a WRX, and other 10% would tell me to get Amsoil or Royal purple or some other oil brand that nobody has ever heard of but it costs $50 a gallon.

I don't think I would come out cheaper because all those above prices include the filter which are at least $6 and sometimes much more in the case of K&N and M1 filters.

Subaru filters now are manufactured by Honeywell which also makes FRAM filters. I know that SOA has stricter quality requirements than Fram but I think that Pure ONE or M1 filters are a bit better.

Ya, the comparo on the new filters shows alot less filter media with the new OEM filters. The old ones were perfect and SOA had to go and cut some corner/money for themselves

They are even putting the blue filters on cars built in Lafayette.

Is Pennzoil much better than Quaker State?
