Question Phoenix area tune options?

Howdy folks. I am slowly getting my new(ish) to me Outback XT sorted. After I get the suspension redone (LGT wagon with Konis), next non-maintenance item will most likely be a tune. I know Goodspeed does them, using the Cobb Access Port. Who else does them and do they do AP or open source tunes? Which is likely to be least expensive? My goal would be stage 1 maximum safe power...

FAT has been good to me. There are 3 or 4 good options but my car goes to FAT/Snail. Snail Performance is actually the tuning company that tunes for FAT

+4 for FAT/Snail. I know this kid with a GTX35R car that ran awesome on their tune for ~7 days before it blew up. It's all good though because they said it was a bad tune and are rebuilding it.

Yikes! Glad they're standing behind their work, unlike other shops that give the runaround so they can swoop up more of your money. Robert has always stood behind his builds!

Now that ***** is hilarious^^ I love all the Hondas trying to find races.

I'll say I have not gotten tuned at FAT (yet) but I plan to. I have seen their work and it is impressive. If you are on the fence, I recommend going to the shops you have in mind and just talking with them about your plans. I did this and the guys at FAT were very accommodating and knowledgeable.


Anyways if it was not obvious enough....+1 for FAT.

Hey Doug just to be sure have you perused this thread on LGT.com? Great info on some deltas between OBXT and LGT suspension:

You'll run into some geometry/alignment issues depending on how much you drop. Plus accelerated wear on driveline components.

Are you going to leave the vehicle with them or "road tune" via email logs? Don't rule out www.camtuning.com if the latter, Cameron knows these cars extremely well.

Thanks for chiming in I am only going to stock LGT wagon height, so I don't think there will be any real alignment issues. My thought on the tune is that I really just want to get "maximum safe power" stage 1 and call it good. I don't really want to buy anything that will be used once or twice and then just sit. I know some tunes are done on a dyno, I assume some tuners can/would do a road tune using their own stuff so I don't have to buy it? Not sure which I would choose, may come down to cost...

2.5" drop with LGT suspension bits alone. Just making sure you're aware of the "issues" before spending money on Konis then replacing tires prematurely due to camber wear.

Tune-wise you'll have to pay the tuner for his time and resources ( license fees, base maps, etc ). OSE will be your "cheapest" route vs an AP however you'll still have initial map fees which should include reflash and/or map upgrades.

Your 07 model is CANBus, ie only OSE option you have is a Tactrix 2.0 cable which runs around $150. Still better than the sub003 AP at $500-600.

GL with the mods, enjoy the vehicle!

Default Phoenix area tune options?

Bumping an old thread I started…

My new question is who in the Phoenix area does non-Access Port tunes? As I understand it, the OTS AP tunes are not necessarily that great. If I'm paying a pretty good chunk of money for the doodad, I don't really want to pay for a tune on top of that. My preference would be to go where all I have to do is show up with the car. Who, if anyone, does that in Phoenix and is good and reputable?

Im surprised Soulless wasn't mentioned more here. Travis at SRP is great. He doesn't carry himself like the god of Subaru (even though he's pretty damn smart), he tunes Access Port and/or open source and probably a couple other formats that I haven't asked him about. His shop installed alot of stuff on my car including a new turbo and everything required for E85. My car has been tuned by Scott Siegel, Chris Black at AMS, and now Travis at SRP. His tune is by far the smoothest, punchiest, and has gotten me the best gas mileage believe it or not. Don't listen to the haters either, Travis has been stealing alot of their business. The last time I was in his shop, I'm pretty sure every STI in Arizona was in that garage.

I'll tell you who not to go to. Any of the idiots at Goodspeed. I was in the Scottsdale area and wanted them to check out what I thought was a boost leak (turns out it was nothing) in my car. I didn't know anything about their history with any other shops nor do I care about supporting one shop over another. They told me they wouldn't even look at my car because it had been touched by Soulless. I couldn't believe it. That's like a doctor refusing to help you because he doesn't like the last doctor you visited. Shops like that don't need to be operating as a "professional business". If you have beef, leave it at the door; don't subject potential customers to your childish crap. Travis and the whole crew at Soulless have always helped me, let me poke and prod and ask stupid questions, and have stood behind their work 100% like any good tuner/performance shop should. They might not have the fanciest looking shop, but they are full of people who love what they do and put their customer first.

If you guys need more proof of the kind of work GoodSpeed does check out my thread. They blamed Mishimoto and even tried to blame the shop that helped me find out what they did... Just go talk to the guys at Soulless, ask a lot of questions and you will see they are really great, knowledgeable people. I will be there Saturday getting my car tuned.
