You're running SM with a stock RS on 225? Why aren't you in an ST class?

Yep, mostly because of the Brakes. Car's pretty stripped and easily chuckable and the courses we run up here play into the cars strength (I can usually post raw times better than mostly stock STi's in SP). Also I've got a 22T for it that I'll be building over the season to be able to drop the hammer. I'd rather spend the season in SM and dial in everything before bumping up the power as well.

Here's a question for all you SM'ers. The early Imprezas, 98-01 have a USDM OEM part for the Bumper Beams which is a lightweight specific piece (front and rear). Since it is a factory option that could be equipped by a dealer (by removing the original beam, then replacing it with a lightweight one) at purchase, is it legal?

But you are absolutely right, that we can't find any records of them ever being equipped on USDM ordered cars as an option or otherwise. I've always hoped they were on Brightons, but alas ![]() |

You are correct. Back in my "what rulebook?" days I ordered the bumper beams from the local subaru dealer along with an aluminum hood. Sadly, the bumper beams had to be traded with someone else, but at least the hood could stay since it was legal in SM.
There is other low hanging fruit on the GC's in regards to weight IMO. |

I kind of figured it wasn't legal. I've checked allot of SM build threads and could find anyone else running it and I figure for the price and the weight savings on the front of the car people would be running it. -Peter |

I installed the lightweight beams in my Brighton in my interpretation they are illegal, so I need to get my hands on some regular beams |

I actually wouldn't worry too much about running SM in a GC and trying to get it light. My GC in SM with an EJ205 would have been right at minimum weight (with a stereo and heavy battery still in it) if I had stuck with SM years ago. I'd worry more about how to improve the suspension geometry and getting enough power to the ground (good diffs and tires). After that it's all driving skill. |

With a 2.5RS and a lot of heavy parts swapped in from an STi including the EJ257/6-speed/hubs/brakes I was still 90 lbs underweight on 285 tires. Some changes this year and moving to a 275 tire for weight allowance and I'll still be 90 lbs under weight. Ballast FTW!

So where would an Oswald performance subframe put me? Xp? What about the gt spec lca brace that also replaces the stock jack plate?
I'm sure I'm already xp with my perrin psrs and my fender braces. Not sure if that goes further Does a cf drive shaft do anything for classing? |

CF Drive shaft looks like it bumps you to a minimum FP.

Although I've questioned if I want it or not. I've asked several vendors and none will give me a straight answer on how it stands up to pro solo type abuse. Yes, it's good to 850whp, I see that in your ad. Now tell me how it does with shock loads and AWD burnouts.

It would have a small effect on power delivery, like a flywheel, but weight loss is weight loss, so take it where you can get it in SM.

Checked a general mod guide and it shows 'alternative driveshaft' as prepared.
