can't win every race but can come back stronger next time.

good times...2011.

jr. you coming to the autox event down here next weekend?

No worries Jake, I am just dicking around.. I am always down to race.. win or loose. .. But I do like winning

I wont be around for the weekend. Going out to tune a nice P&L rotated 2011 STI

^ I'm gonna build something high compression like that but leave the stock cylinder liners. Those sleeves and pinning the block is just too much $ for me. If I blow it up after just a month or something dumb it won't hurt as bad if I'm running stock cylinder liners

I like the Manley gear too . I'll probably try some of that out. Turbo tuff ftw...

Jake, what were you talking about when you were saying car needs anything but a wrx open diff.? I'm running the R160 with my 6mt swap and I plan on hitting the drag strip this year quite a bit. Were you gonna upgrade the internals on the R160 to something beefy?

I'm on stock liners bored to 99.75 just to make the bore 100% perfect and get the right PTW. Just pinned and oringed for now.

A friend of mine blew out 6 R160's from junk yard donor legacy's before we swapped in his carrier from his old WRX R160. The spider gears in the older legacies arent as strong. Having the LSD also takes some of the stress off of the spider gears.

Oh interesting? I thought you were sleeved on both blocks. So how high are you gonna push the block in the xt?

I don't know much about the r160 what's the carrier ? I have a 2002 wrx R160. I don't think the Hta86 and the wrx r160 are gonna play nice together

Why are you running an open rear diff Jake? I thought the WRX had an open front and LSD rear.

I know p&l runs the r160 in their drag car, must be something tough inside theirs. If mine bites the dust I'm probably gonna replace the insides with something wicked...

Is that your plan Jake?

The carrier is the part of the differential that houses the spider gears and side gears. The side gears are attached to the axles and are driven by the spider gears. The spider gears are attached to the carrier housing, the carrier housing is driven by the ring gear, which is driven by the pinion gear.

On the WRX LSD the side gear is coupled to the carrier housing with viscous clutch packs, which takes some of the strain off of the spider gears (but not much)

It seems that the weak point to the r160 in stock form is definitely the spider gears, so instead of spending a ton of $$$ on an R180 upgrade we're going to weld up the side gears to the carrier housing and see how long it takes to break that
That rear diff will just be used for drag racing obviously... I dont imagine the axles would last long on the road with it being welded

I have a spiider dual mode dccd controller. I would have to say it made a night and day difference. I leave it in auto mode mostly. Before I installed the controller I noticed the rear wheels would just spin and make the rear end wanna come right around. Now the car just seems to wanna just go where ever I aim the steering wheel

I'm gonna google the kaaz r160 right now

Yes. DCCDPro.com. I'm using the dual mode, which they don't make anymore. They came out with the new one a couple weeks after I got mine.

Semi-random question: what cluster do you have in your car?

Spiider and dccdpro are the same guy . The cluster matters because They now make one that wire into the Sti cluster and it works with the factory cluster lights. It's pretty cool. I didn't know they didn't make the dual mode anymore that's strange. You must just have to buy the cluster one. Either way the damn thing works wonders in auto mode...
