i appreciate it. ron is taking very good care of my car. i am doing the best i can to make sure its mechanically sound, day after day. i listen to my car like i'm straining to hear something 2 miles away. imagine me with my hand on my ear and big buck teeth like....HUH, did you hear that? ask foolio, i'm pretty anal about how the car feels and sounds.

no doubt i will be depressed when it goes, cause i have already put a lifespan on it. i will be really surprised if it lives 20k miles. i'm already at 5k and it has been a lot of fun so far! race cars don't go 20k without a rebuild. this is barely a simple street car.
its a toy to me. an expensive and fragile toy, but i am aware of how easy at any moment it could destroy itself.

if that happens i'll just sue ron for 1500$ and spend most of my rebuild time trashing him about how its always the tuners fault.

don't laugh ron, i stole your soc sec. number and address out of your wallet when you were passed out drunk so you better make sure this car runs 30* of timing and 30#s of boost for 100000 miles or i'm sending officer friendly over to serve you.

i think i might have gotten some brain damage this afternoon.

syke you know i'm kidding. i like to laugh out loud at myself.

just like i told karl on saturday before he drove around me at 5 mph slower. i can't really blame you if it breaks because i would not have done anything different. ron and i have discussed that i know he is a competant tuner and i will not get mad at him if we break my toy.

.......

I agree with John something similar happen to me: broke my tranny, two weeks later I blew my engine by putting a way too strong helper spring on my VF39, and then two weeks later I got laid off . What a month, I spent over 10K to get the car up running; what a month that was . I have the money to fix my car if something happens but is just a really a bad feeling when an engine or tranny goes, is a feeling that I don't wish on anyone.

I agree with what John is saying. 3/4 of the people in any particular shop who say go for gold and beat it up too, regret it. I didnt care when my ringland cracked, i thought it would have happened sooner. But thats not everyones attitude.

Jake, here is what I think. Your gonna drive the car regardless how you want. If your auto-x'ing on sat, why not detune it as john said (inexpensive route) or... Why dont you drop some c16 in the car and only touch up the maf/fuel tables to get you to a nice 11.3-11.5. No boost bump, no timing bump. Knock protection at its finest.

If your running the 1/4, why waste your time with pump too? Its more gratifying and "safer" to use a better octane. On pump with a tmic, you'll pull timing in 4th or 5th. The only way to make things happen with that setup on pump is to 0 the comps and turn the knock sensor off (especially with a tmic). I wouldnt let you do that. Why not put in c16 and tune the car for vp 100 say. You'll do 160mph pulls day in and out and never see feedback.

I have probably 50 dyno pulls on c16, and 4-5 top speed runs. Other than a sub 1.0 load cruise knock, I've never experienced feedback on the good stuff, ever. That 32psi, 21*-26*, and over 550whp (470ish on a mustang)

Looking out for you bud, but responsible fun is gonna cost a bit, and you know I help you out because your a good kid and I love what I do.

autox is gonna hurt my car, huh? i've never done it before so i'm gonna take it easy. i don't have high expectations for a podium finish, but i do expect to have a very exciting event with chris. looking forward to seeing his driving skills first hand.

i also expect to waste my brakes and tear the tread of my tires.

It seems that your tune is not conservative, so If you are running the car hard and for long periods its going to get hot quick. The TMIC will heat soak and then you will start knocking. Thats why I recommend switching to E85 because of its wonderfull cooling properties and the detonation protection. I will never run 93oct I would run it if E85 doesn't exist. Detune it a bit.

hey gary, what was your best run at atco?
I think my best run on that first and only day ive been to atco with the car (besides the night i ****ed a motor mount) I got the car down to like 12.19's @ 120ish. Ill dig up the time slips and update this accordingly later on today. I couldnt get the car off the line to save my life, and had those HUGE 275/40/17 Nitto NT05's on there. From driving the car on the street and all my 6k clutch drops I know that my star spec's hook alot better then the nitto's also, so its just a matter of time before I get a feel for the car. Since Dec 09 I have only put about 6500 miles on the car and feel that I am not the driver that I once was. Simply because I dont get nearly as much wheel time as I did when I daily drove the car and when it was stock....now im tooo busy pushing around the Denali on those 24's, and the Tercel with 82hp! hahaha

If I can crack 500 on my e85 setup the car "should" be able to run 10's. Back before my car was a monster I would go to atco and run mid-high 12's with 1.6-1.8 60's like it was my job...but the car has came a long way and between the tires, clutch and power the way she launches as Laguna Seca is like night and day to how she launched as a WRB stage 2 STi. I could care less if the car never even gets 11 second passes though, I know its a BLAST to drive, I know from experience that the car WALKS high 11 second cars from a roll and as long as I am the one out having fun in it what do I care?

I feel that Auto-X is HORRIBLE for a car. you either have your foot mashed on the gas or breaking...that cant be good let alone the parking lots they take place on. Let alone now that you have a 450whp car, your gonna chew through breaks and tires so better start looking for another set of tires. I refuse to Auto-X my car, those parking lots would destroy my "ice cream paint job" lol and would much rather drop $1000 for a time attack at NJMP.

^you dont think a time attack is worse then auto-x on a car? Time-attack def have more strain on the motor and you have a better chance of ruining your "ice cream paint job".

I doubt ill ever do a time attack in a car that i DD for those reasons. Auto-x is safer but still tons fun IMO.

OP: I would def detune this car for auto-x tho

If you're always mashing the gas or braking, you're doing it wrong. I'm on the same set of pads I ran all year, and there's still plenty of meat on them. Plus, I got them used. I'm hardly ever if at all at full throttle.
I'm not attacking at all, it's just funny to see a drag racer talk about autox being stressful. The launches are nowhere near as hard, you'll never be flat out in 4th or 5th gear, and once your driving improves, you'll use less throttle and brake and get faster. Time attack? That's probably one of the worst things you can do to a car as far as stress goes. You'll waste a set of tires, pads, and rotors in one shot.

It was a fun start to another east coast tuning trip guys, had so much fun. I have been so busy the last 2 months I forgot what beer tasted like... Tonight, I remember!! LOL

Fun celebrating with the boys for sure. Wish Sen could have made it out.

On a technical note, Jakes car, no matter what is thrown at it, shows feedback past 5k. Karl had the det cans for tuning today (ROn hooked him up nice!) but Jake did not.

With this, my first pass on the pump map with a recalibrated maf scaling yielded a 12.1 @ 119 pulling 8 degrees of timing. Being that the det cans were not on the car, and knowing that the knock was for sure false (24psi 8*-12*), I opted to surpass the knock sensor with jakes permission.

Not utilizing the cans, I did not go crazy what so ever. I added 2 degrees to the map and 2 psi. The car saw like 15-16 passes between jake, karl, and myslef.

11.4@124 was my best and last pass. I had no clue for such conservative numbers on c16 it was even possible to go that fast. I got kicked out and had to plead for the slip.

This was a great way to start my trip. Tomorrow its off to the Carolinas, then down to florida for some big turbo cars!!

Good stuff guys!!

Thanks dude!! It just wasnt for tonight though. The track was a skating rink. I burned out past the tree twice and even at the mercy of ABS I just kept going

I also didnt push the car because we have not hooked up the det cans yet.

In due time though. I no lifted 5th on a few passes and the clutch went bah-bye Sorry Jacob
