i just cant believe your motor would go running 25-26 psi and 10-11* of timing at peak tq....on c16. I consider that highly conservative for that octane level.

Just to give an idea of the conservativeness.....the last gt30 i logged out here tuned by a local shop was running 29psi and 18* of timing at peak tq on 91+meth....

this sucks jake.

This.^ I thought you guys said earlier in the thread that you were going to go conservative on C16, so a spun bearing doesn't make much sense. In my experience, pullies, timing guide and certain exhaust leaks can sound just like a bearing. Drop the oil and check it out, I really hope it is something else.

Im sure it has to come apart. Last minute motorsports.
Do the clutch with the motor out....as soon as I find a job.

Fortunately I can park her and rock steady in my teggy.

Hopefully not too much is wrecked...i'd hate to have to stroke it.

we should drain the oil when we get it to jodies & check for metal in the oil before we tear it apart. i really pray its not a rod.

until then..

Get those brake lines on the teggy fixed son!
maybe do some 17 sec bracket racing.

yea man drain the oil and if you don't see any metal right off the bat take two flat peaces of clear plastic and stick one in the oil then stick the other one to the oily one and hold it up to light give it a good inspection.

That sucks Jake, I am sorry to hear that. I was looking forward to the track this weekend with you guys.

Just wanted to point out that not having enough timing can be just as bad as having to much timing. To little timing will cause very high EGTs which can and will lead to detonation just like to much timing. Just post pics of the bearings and pistons when you get them out.

If you flatten a bearing you will have a knock, but very little if any metal in the oil. Very hard to see it.

Ill def share the results with our community. It would be really nice if we could discover the cause but without data from friday we will be more or less sorting through wreckage.
Def looking forward to any insight, comments, suggestions, and advice.

Maybe mikey will post up the map we ran.

Are stock sti rods good up to 400hp or 450?

If a 120mph trap speed is 400hp, and a 130mph trap is 500 horse, your car went 125mph soo isnt that 450hp which is pushing a stock sti rods limits anyway?

any views/comments/opinions of running 5wt30 with a +2 bearing size?

i thought mikey said he added 1 degree of timing on to your 93oct pump map and added 2psi.. not enough timing for c16?

their rating is really unknown I have heard from 400whp to 500whp. I am myself running 400whp+ Airboy and tons of timming. I know people that have gone 135mph+ in 1/4th miles with stock STi rods so their are not weak by any means

GL Jake

I run rotella T 5w40, I can see how it happen but is just theories. Who knows...

He was running a STi TMIC with a 30r on 93oct with a semi aggresive tune. It seems that Jake liked to drive his car hard as I do, If the TMIC head soaked there was probably a lot of knock. It probably happend overtime

To bend a rod it probably happen with detonation or a piston seizing. I don't understand the oil theory, do you guys mean not enough lubrication between the bearing and the rod?

I've been pushing my stock Sti bottom end hard , no problems... Get a compression tester and test it jake! Maybe it's just something stupid? Any blue smoke or anything out the back?

On friday night jakes car was running:

12 degrees of timing at peak torque
16 degrees of timing at 7000 rpm

26 psi

11.4 AFR's

It was 37 degrees, IC never got hot.

;ake, before I left for florida and you flashed back to pump, I told you to turn the boost back down to 23-24. Did you ever do that?

jodie came by and we could barely reproduce the noise. We drove it around and pulled on the throttle body, but I couldnt make it reproduce the noise.

Gonna check the oil tomorrow.

I heard it very slightly here and there but jo thought it was wierd that it wasnt all the time like a spun bearing.

Maybe its not broke?

Sounds pretty close to the setup i'm running right now, minus a few psi.
