Default Is This Canadian Ad For Hyundai Simply Too Racy For The U.S. Market?

Quote:
If you’ve watched any of the Olympics over the last two weeks, you’ve probably seen Audi take some shots at Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, and even Ferrari in a couple of TV ads

If you live in Canada, you’ve also been privy to an ad for the Hyundai Elantra, which involves two beautiful women, one of which leaves a lipstick kiss and phone number for the other. How does that relate to car advertising?

Ads from Hyundai absolutely ooze confidence lately, though this one in particular leaves me wondering what target market Hyundai.

has in mind. Is this kind of advertising effective or too edgy and inappropriate? An ad like this sure won’t be seen in the U.S., but it was just fine for Canada!

Not too "racy" but it really doesn't make sense for a car commercial. What do they want me to buy? If I hadn't been told it's a Hyundai ad, I'd have no idea.

Its aimed at the LGBT community; Subaru has done similar ads although more subtle.

But... Outside of TV and men's imagination no lesbians actually look like that. I'd say the ad was aimed much more at 18-30yo males.

Sure got my attention...

This is interesting for me being a Canadian. For me when seen this I found it funny and didn't really think it's a big deal at all. It's interesting that there is that big of a cultural gap between Canada and USA when it comes to things like this. I guess in some of the smaller more religous centers in Canada they might not find this that funny, but nobody will take great offense.

Plus the girls are hot!!!!

Put a Subaru there and it would have made perfect sense.

I think this could be shown in the northern and western US but likely not the South

See, that's the point. The average male viewer will still enjoy it but it also appeals to GBLT folks.

I don't think there is that big of a gap. TV stations are just scared ****less about being sued or losing a few viewers that they cater to the extreme nutjobs.

Seriously, after watching this commercial again. It pisses me off. What the hell are you trying to sell me?! Other than the hot women it's a complete waste of time.

Who pays people to make these ads?
