Default done!

wow it was easy. i ordered the 08 resistor last week and got it on wednesday. i removed the 07 resistor. installed the 08 resistor. It wasnt that much bigger where i thought i had to protect wires and stuff so i left it as it is. got a wiring diagram that i found on here to make sure i was pulling the correct wires.

installed according what was on this thread. Tested it out and BAM! it worked. Its freaking awesome. now im gonna go look for some yellow high beam bulbs to use.

Also, did you guys that did this notice that the high beam indicator light is on in the instrument cluster? I hope this is normal. I kind of like it because it tells me that they are on. Then when i switch the light switches it turns off.

anyways, i should have taken pictures but it was really easy, just grab wiring diagram. behind the glove box its the blue (HB) and black (LB) relays.

thanks for your help Big-E

You're welcome!

The HB indicator being dimly illuminated is normal (and yes is a good way to tell you the DRL's are working).

Default 2008+ DRL Resistor Specs

The 2008 resistor is:

70w; 1.13 Ohms

It is approximately 4" tall, 2.5" wide, and 1" thick.

Last weekend I did a little "tweaking" to the DRL's.

I have added a switched ground wire so that now if I turn on the parking lights, the DRL's shut-off.

So my set up is now:
No lights = DRL highbeams
Parking lights and/or headlights = no DRL's.

I have amber high-output bulbs as City Lights and I liked the way the light filled the headlamp capsule. With the DRL's on with the parking lights on, you could no longer see this.

I was provided the answer back in February 2007 from a post I long forgot about: http://www.scoobymods.com/drls-off-p...53.html?t=2353

The front tow hooks are a part of the Oswald Peformance lightweight bumper beam that I installed. Mickey typically sets up his bumper beam to include one hook on the passenger's side. I opted to have a second mounting plate installed to have of course a second hook.

http://oswaldperformance.com/IMPREZA...UMPERBEAM.aspx

The tow hooks are from a vendor he uses, Rennen Metal: http://www.rennenmetal.com/products.asp?cat=1

Also, if you are interested, Rennen metal makes a GD/GG specific rear tow hook. Very nice and very easy to install: http://www.rennenmetal.com/proddetail.asp?prod=1347

To 'fix' having the high-beam indicator glowing while the DRL's are in operation, replace the bulb with an LED bulb. You'll want a miniature wedge-style bulb #74: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...%2F74-xHP.html

Hey Big-E, have you caught any heat from having yellows in your headlamps and not clears? I'm interested in doing this but not sure about drawing any unwanted attention.

No, I have not.

One is that I don't go driving around with the high-beams on and the other is that DRL high-beams look yellow/orange anyway.

I did this mod yesterday and picking up my 08+ resistor today! Pics when I get it done and log on at home. Best ever mod, very unique for our cars! I was going to do it last year but forgot. This day can't go any slower!

Definitely post up some pics!

If you install the resistor using the original bracket and then back onto the strut-tower, I suggest that you get some various sized wire-loom that is rated for higher temperature areas and effectively cover the wires and vacuum hoses in that area. That resistor does get very hot when in use and so you don't want to cook anything, if you know what I mean.

Ok, quick question, where is the 08 drl resistor located? And where is the 07 resistor that needs to be replaced? I know where the relays are and the drl module, both behind the glove box. I don't want to disable my drl but rather this mod.

Thanks

Bump for an answer. Where is the resistor located on an 07?? I know where it is on an pre-07 and 08+. I checked both wheel wells and the engine bay and behind the glove box but no luck, or maybe I just missed it. Also, what color wires do I need to swap on an 07? I checked for the colors listed here, but those colors don't apply on an 07. Thanks for the help.
