Default Project Car Magazine installs the best modification you can make to your WRX!

At COBB Tuning, we believe that the AccessPORT is the best modification you can make to your performance car, but don't just take our word for it! The Winter issue of Project Car Magazine features the installation of a COBB Tuning AccessPORT on Project Car's very own 2002 WRX! Now that the 2002 WRX is getting on in age, it is becoming incredibly affordable and is quickly becoming the project car of choice for many enthusiasts. With this in mind, Project Car has added a 2002 WRX to their fleet. The car has already been extensively modified and was in need of a tune to tie all these parts together. Project Car was impressed with how simple to install and easy to use the AccessPORT is with plug-and-play tuning right at your fingertips. The AccessPORT is available for every year of WRX and STI produced for the North American market. No matter if you just picked up a 2002 WRX project car, or a brand new 2010 daily commuter, COBB Tuning has an AccessPORT for you.

Ya I was kind of expecting this answer. I think the AP still seems attractive for someone looking to just flash and go. And it does offer some additional functions to just simple flashing.

I don't want to start an Accessport vs. Tatrix debate here but lets give Cobb props for what they have done for WRX tuning.

^^ Yep, I agree. Unless you are a seasoned tuner and know what you're doing, then have a blast blowing up a car with this EM technique of DIY tuning with the laptop. I only wish it wasn't such a pain to get Cobb to send the dumb security code to the tuner so I could have them use the AP Tuner Pro/Race software and give me a tune when it's scheduled... Missed my scheduled tune due to this and it was a good day off too A week of waiting and still no response from Cobb I would like to have it done professionally and it could be open source or AP and it's all gravy; Although there's only access to one of multiple fuel timing lines on the AP tuner pro as far as I know. Over all though I'm really quite happy with all the features of the AP. Just need a true wideband A/F gauge, lol.

OTS maps are not the end-all solution that everyone thinks they are. They are good for VERY lightly modded setups (a downpipe), and the gains are still light. I guess it helps that the AP's dyno uses dynojet numbers(high reading, uncorrected) to show gains.

I haveone of the first AP 2.0, and I love all the uses it has, but the OTS maps SUCK.

Just because you use ROM Raider does NOT mean you are going to grenade your motor...it does not even mean you are going to tune it yourself!! There are a **** ton of excellant maps available from the Oper Source community, many of which are more customized for a variety of setups, and probably have a lot more time put into them.

OTS maps are an upgrade to the stock maps, of course they are not the end all solution... They are a start, for modding the car a certain way that works for the general/average moder... A pro - tune is always better. Duh... As for OS being better... well, that would depend on the tuner... I would suspect most people just don't have the knowledge/background to make a better map than a pro - tuner would... JMO

Pro Tuners are generally good, but not necessarily the best tuners out there. It is not like there is a Cobb sponsored "Pro Tuner Jedi" program...and the Pro Tuners had to start tuning somewhere. Probably with open source. There are a lot of competent tuners out there whether in the open ECU world, or using acces tuner race, or pro tuner.
