Default Gainesville Area Spotted/Meet-up Thread

This thread's for anybody living in or around Gainesville (Lake City, Ocala, etc) driving any kind of Subaru who might want to meet new people or hang out and look & sound better than Hondus. I've heard that back in the day, people used to meet up somewhere on Archer, but they went underground or left the area.

Current meet is Ale House, Wednesdays, 8 PM
The old meet is Test 'n Tune night on Wednesdays around 7 PM Gainesville Raceway.
Cost is $5 general admission or $25 to do as many 1/4 runs as you can get in.

You need safety equipment if you are gonna run better than a 12.9 unless you do untimed runs. More details at http://www.gainesvilleraceway.com/

PM if you got questions!

Point people to this thread who might not even be NASIOCers so we can go take over a restaurant or test & tune night out at gator raceway.

Cheers

Default First Spotted

Saw a silver/white bugeye out at MAEC on campus about half an hour ago, but I took off. Sorry man, I have too much to do tonight. (besides start NASIOC threads) If you find your way to the thread we can meet on better terms than traded exhaust notes.

Gotta toot my own horn with the first spotted post, sorry.

I think by most accounts he wouldn't be as good a tuner if he sobered up. Perish the thought!

The last Gainesville thread is not 6 years old.. I posted one about 6 months ago

anyways, sup guys I'm Jared, 3rd year ME student.
Wrb blobeye with black wheels and a red lip.

I live right off of university and always drive on campus.
I see scoobs all the time.

Although floridasubarus.com seems better than nasioc for meetups.

My scooby friends include:
the half blue/gold 04 sti is owned by a guy named Brendon who lives in town (goes to Santa fe). He doesn't really go on nasioc.
There's a white 05 wrx wingless / black wheels owned by 4th year ME named Alex. He only goes on nasioc to look up info.

I've met a few others but forget names easily.
Met a guy at swampfest car show with a 06 wrb wrx w/ vf39.
There was another blacked out wrx there owned by one of the mechanics at Duval motorsports.

I've seen 2 other blobeye sti's one white and one blue with goldies.
There's a stock looking wrb bugeye that parks right off of university.
You can see it as you're traveling east on university coming from 34th before you hit the school.

I've actually been meaning to hit this up. Whenever I can go, it rains and gets cancelled.

Oh and if you're on facebook you can join the group "Gainesville subarus" me and Brendon started. It could be useful for organizing events.

Yeah, Alex has been in a couple classes with me but I've never actually talked to him. Tell him he needs to wash the grime off that thing man! Last time I saw it, it was gray.

Is the guy at Duval cool? I went there and talked to them about clutches and they wanted to "cut me a deal" at "50% off" for $700 for an OEM clutch kit + install. I laughed and walked out. Plus, they charged me $180 to change my diff fluid when I didn't ask for that service. I was surprised by this since Rene seemed decent when she was at Palm. I've seen the others you have mentioned, too. Never seen the blue one off University actually driving. I live just north of campus at College Park.

**** I'll look that up right now. Yeah, I haven't done any runs yet cuz my only other scoob friend, Josh with a silver bugeye wagon who lives off 43rd, has a bad clutch. I don't wanna run up against those ****in twin Jeep SRT8s. We should go show those Hondus with the air holes drilled in the back what's what.

Haha no no that's just how it started. I used to always drink beers and tune my friends cars. Drunkmann Tuning just stuck.

I tuned my first "customer" car in 01-02 using Hondata, Accel DFI, and V/SAFCs. Man....i'm showing my age.

Sorry, I been awake since like the day before yesterday... I lose it when that happens.

Ya the guy seemed pretty cool, I forget his name. I think he said he usually works on mercedes though as a tech.

Rene is super nice, that doesn't sound like something they would do. I suppose you did some complaining after that?
The mechanic that I like there is named Jeremy. He was very informative and seemed to know what he was doing. He's the guy that rebuilt Alex's engine for him after he blew it up . Alex is getting some clutch chatter though now after the build so he's been meaning to go back.

They rebuild engines at a stealership? Maybe I should give them another try, see how much they want to charge for a clutch install.

Yup, Wednesdays... That's not long after Gator Nationals. Me and Josh were hoping to get free tickets but I dunno what the story is with that right now. If not then I guess the qualifying rounds might be worth $40 or whatever it costs.

Jeremy also does side jobs away from the dealership I believe.
I'm not sure if Alex's was done at the dealer or somewhere else.

And i'll be home for spring break during Gator Nationals unfortunetly.

Ya i think the races are march 11-14.
Break is 6-14.

Lol I actually want a bike, but I'm more of a honda guy
never owned or ridden a street bike actually, been meaning to though. I've had a xr 70, xr 100, crf 230, crf 250. Riding since 7th grade.
parents said they'd stop paying rent if I got one.
they're more afraid of the other drivers than my skills..which is respectable, florida drivers are crazy.

Hahaha god damn hondas. Yeah. The danger to most riders who aren't just straight up squids is definitely the moms in minivans and the grandmas in lincoln towncars. Most riders in general are very safe and aware. Best part is that people will NEVER accept blame when they kill a motorcyclist, because they already resent them and don't think of them as people. "Well I just didn't see him, how could I?" This really gets me off on a rant, lol.

I live in the Gainesville area (alachua), work at UF in the college of Vet Med, and am taking classes at Santa Fe. I have a UGM 07 2.5i. The only mods I've done are a CAI and a front strut tower brace other then some cosmetic stuff. Hopefully soon I'll be installing the rear strut tower brace and a H-brace. I would definitely be cool with meet up at a restaurant or somewhere. Not sure there would be much point for me do go to the drag strip but I be cool with going to watch.

Hey man, you'd be surprised. They get some NA Mazdas and pickup trucks up in there running 23 second 1/4s. For now I would just plan for Mar 24 to be open as a first gville scoob meetup. General admission to the track on test & tune night is $5, I'm pretty sure, so not too bad. Should be cool if we can get enough of the people Jared talked about to go too.

09 infiniti g37s (nismo exhaust)
07 mustang gt (forget mods but dynod at 302 whp)

we also have a guy with a stock 99 2.5rs but idk if he wants to go to the drag strip.

ya that's exactly what I'm talking about lol.

I know gsxr's are some of the best bikes, and suzuki did wonders with the hayabusa, but I've had a bad taste in my mouth ever since my buddy had a suzuki drz-125 haha . it was the biggest piece of **** ever.

how fast is the 600 in the 1/4 and 0-60?
