Default Report: No M version of the 1-Series… but

Quote:
Within the past two months, you’ve read headlines like these:
All those probably have those that love mini high-performance coupes shaking in their boots – but unfortunately, it ain’t gonna happen.

According a source that spoke with Inside Line at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, BMW has no plans to produce an M version of the 1-Series.

“If we do something, it’ll be a 135is like we’ve done with the Z4 and the 3 Series,” the source said.

That means you can keep your hopes up for the 320-hp 3.0L twin-turbo N54 inline-6 engine making it under the hood
of something called the 135is… and hell yes we’ll settle for that.

Quote:
Months and months and more months ago we reported that BMW would not do an M1 version of the 1 Series. We had it on good authority from a source inside BMW. Still, the rumors of the car's existence have lit up every blog and forum the world over.

Well, today at the Geneva auto show, Inside Line has once again confirmed from a source inside BMW that the M version of the 1 Series will not happen. Got that, people? It will not happen.

"If we do something, it'll be a 135is like we've done with the Z4 and the 3 Series," the source told us with a wink.
So this fall look for BMW to introduce a 135is powered by a more powerful version of the twin-turbo N54 inline six-cylinder and a more aggressively tuned suspension.
That is all.

+1 I want to love the car, but I just can't. The "belly" needs to go...

Still don’t know if I buy that. The spy photos of cold weather testing had some huge fender flares on the back of a 1 series. I don’t see significant body changes on any other XXXis model.

LOL...that's a great name for it! If it were my cat, it would be dragging on the road (the belly, not my cat).

The 135i is actually a very competent car. Unfortunately the car just doesn't look right in person or in pictures.

The 135 drives incredibly well even though it is a little on the chunky side and could use a good ol' weight watchers diet.

I can never foresee them making a M1 due to the history of the supercar and quite honestly i hope they don't. I hope they do make the Tii though as it was a gorgeous concept.

People over at 1addicts say the M1 is still alive, insideline.com is the only website so far stating that the M1 will not be put into production...

I think BMW will be watching Porsche rather intently to see whether they decide to put that new hybrid concept of theirs into production. If they do, I predict they would get a move on with the M1 supercar's successor.

I think that it will take more than 20hp and some suspension tuning. I want a tii.

Lovin' the cat belly comments - here's my cat belly. Let me say I get more postive coments on this thing out of any car I've ever owned, including my pimped out '05 STi, from all types of people, especially tuner folks. The thing looks pretty damn good in person, even better wih a few tasteful touches, even better with a drop, which I'm working on.
And the thing is ungodly powerful. It is a freaking monster with a hot tune, intake and exhaust. I don't even have downpipes yet and I walk all over a lot of cars, and I'm still on the stock runflats, which blow. The I6 TT is just something you have hear at speed... truly amazing. Top-end highway speed and handling, this car completely blows away the Subarus, as one would expect from a RWD BMW. Hard to describe the amount of torque from a properly modded 135i. I still sometimes miss the AWD though.
But yeah, like any car, the looks had to grow on me, I love it now. In person, it defintely has a certain classy look that my STi never had, yet the STi had it's own look too which I miss the hell out of... Neither car really photographs easily without some mods... Front CF lip and drop are in the works.

Neither, it refers to the sideskirt area which appears to dip downward like a cats belly.
