Default GRM Purchases Subiesport

Grassroots Motorsports magazine purchases Subiesport Magazine
For Immediate Release

HOLLY HILL, Fla., November 18, 2009—Motorsport Marketing, Inc., publishers of Grassroots Motorsports magazine, are pleased to announce that they have acquired Subiesport Magazine’s print and digital editions from MediaSpigot LLC, a media company based in Kirkland, Wash.

Grassroots Motorsports Publisher Tim Suddard had this to say about the purchase: “Here at Grassroots, we know and love Subarus and have been at the forefront of the blossoming Subaru market for many years. Bringing Subiesport into our fold is a good fit for both companies and will mutually benefit our combined readerships. Not only will we fulfill all remaining Subiesport digital and print subscriptions with Grassroots Motorsports, but we’re also going to ramp up coverage. Our hope is that we can deliver beyond our new readers’ expectations.”

David S. Wallens, Grassroots Motorsports editorial director, commented on how the acquisition will affect the editorial side of Grassroots Motorsports: “In addition to our already extensive autocross and rally coverage, we have begun to create even more Subaru-specific features in light of this acquisition. In fact, we already went out and purchased our new project car: a 2003 Subaru WRX, which we've been having fun with. I welcome Subaru fans to give us feedback on our Web site and tell us what they want us to do with it—while it’s still mostly stock.”

Tim Suddard continued, “Another great benefit of this acquisition is that, rather than have a competitor in the Northwest, we now have a friend and ally in former Subiesport Publisher Ryan Douthit. We have known Ryan for many years and have respected what he accomplished with Subiesport. Now, however, he’ll be able to put more of his energy into producing great content, both for Grassroots Motorsports as well as his growing video series, ‘Driving Sports TV.’”

Douthit added, “Having competed against Grassroots Motorsports in the cutthroat magazine business, I know that the quality of their editorial and the ethics of their staff is unsurpassed. Also, as a larger publishing company, they will be able to do a great job providing the Subiesport readership with the type of content they continue to crave—now eight times a year!”

The acquisition is effective immediately. Subiesport subscribers will receive all issues due to them, starting with the April issue of Grassroots Motorsports, which gets mailed in February 2010.

About Grassroots Motorsports:Grassroots Motorsports is the how-to magazine for the serious sports car enthusiast. From profiles of new sports cars to in-depth—and occasionally off-the-wall—project cars, for 25 years each issue of GRM has been packed with practical tips that help real-world sports car enthusiasts get race car performance out of their daily drivers. I have tremendous respect for the crew at GRM and they have pledged to give the Subaru community their full support going forward. I will will continue to assist GRM in the development of content that our readers expect.

Oh, and Subiefest is still on for 2010. More info on that soon at http://www.subiefest.com

Meanwhile, you'll see a lot more from Driving Sports TV going forward.

that is good news. it's a shame there won't be a "subaru specific" magazine anymore...but if any company was going to pick up subiesport...they certainly got picked by the best

Dam, order a subie magazine and get a motorsport mag instead. Its too bad they didnt make it even with their following. Oh well I guess it could be worse, we could be getting the next edition of DUB magazine.

Im looking foward to see what you guys do to cater to us subie guys.

Funny, the first magazine I worked for was eventually sold to GRM. British Car Magazine became Classic Motorsports. Now Subiesport... So, Per, which magazine do you guys want to buy next, I can go build it up for you.

GRM is a great mag and have been a reader for over 10 years. I'm glad if anyone pickup Subiesport it was them. Much better content then Car & Driver, Motorsport, 0-60 or any import mag.

I never got one magazine of my last subscription to SubieSports, and I have had a lot of trouble getting my magazines from GRM, eventhough they are part of my NASA membership.

Well I was going to subscribe to GRM anyways, after reading their write up on getting 1g out of the 2008 WRX I was blown away, the editorials are awesome in this mag very reminiscent of Subiesport, when they first started ( I mean the quality of the writing, not the production or other aspects). In the last couple years the editorials in Subiesport have dropped off. I am glad my subscription will pick back up with GRM, considering I haven't really received many (2) magazines from Subiesport this subscription round( I have every issue of Subiesport from issue 1). And this whole time I thought Ryan Douthit was just being a wanker. Well I mean he kinda was, not responding to the Subiesport boards, or even taking the completely justified criticism of the terrible idea of leading Subiesport to its death via "new direction". Well either way, I am happy GRM will be satisfying my motorsport needs from now on.

At least you'll get a full 8 issues of Grassroots. If you're a WRX owner, I think you'll like what you see. If you were driving a Tribeca, you might feel underrepresented.

Yeah, SubieSport went kinda poopy the past year, I'll have to agree. I knew something must be up, when the same mag sat on my local Barne's and Noble's shelf from December '08 to June '09.

No offense, but I was unimpressed by the last four+ issues, anyway.

GRM is certainly a good mag, but I hope they really focus on some quality Subie coverage, rather than tossing-together a few articles about celebs with ESX STis, and ho-hum reviews of new models.

^^^ lol that ESX editorial was a complete waste of space... The reviews that they had of the new models were complete garbage, they were pretty much everything that SOA used in their press releases, and marketing material that went to the dealerships ( I used to sell Subies)

Does that mean GRM will feature more Subaru specific content, or will GRM be making a subaru specific magazine?

reads to me like GRM will have more Subie specific coverage. Subie Sport was an awesome mag a few years ago. The last year or so it was starting to lean a little ricer for me (hoes on whips n **** yo!) GRM is THE racing magazine for true racers in the states. As an avid autocrosser I welcome the GRM aquisition as it will now be more driver oriented subie stuff as opposed to look at my madtytejdmyo engine with a gt67353r turbo that puts down eleventy billion torkz at hot import nights

BRING ON GRM!!

I'm happy just knowing it will still be around. Also hopeful there will be an improvement on what subiesport had become......not much.

Been reading GRM for 11 years now (and was even in it a time or three), great magazine. This will be a huge benefit to the Subaru community as a whole.
