Probably a large or so. Idk how helmets go haha. And DOT approved for track racing. Blacktrail (Ryan) if you see this, what size is yours?

go to a local shop and try on helmets so you know what size you are (relatively) so your head's not uncomfortable and bangin around the inside of the helmet

Will DOT approved motorcycle helmets do? Cycle gear has pretty inexpensive helmets sometimes, KBC, HJC, etc

I'd advise against buying a used helmet for your safety. Padding can get worn out and you never know if the helmet has been dropped.

What you have to look into as far as helmets go is their Snell Rating.

There's Snell M2005, K2005, and SA2005

They're all designed for different things, M is designed for impacts with the road and other motile situations, where SA is designed to be safe inside of a caged car and passes fire tests that the M would not have.

some SA helmets are not DOT approved because they have a more narrow field of vision than their motor cycle counterparts. but in every case Snell Approved Helmets are much safer than DOT rated alone.

Read more at the Snell Foundation's website http://www.smf.org/

As far as buying a helmet I'd recommend http://soloracer.com/ using your local motorcycle shop can help you find a right fit if you're unfamiliar with sizes, But remember every manufacture does padding differently so don't expect an G-Force Helmet to fit like the HJC you try on at a local store.

Most drag strips will let you get by with motorcycle helmets until you go 11.49 or faster, unless there very relaxed on enforcing rules. At that point you will need a helmet that has a fire rating to it. Most cheaper motorcycle helmets like HJC's are around $100, so in my opinion id spend the extra $80-100 and go ahead and get a helmet thats actually made for what your gonna use it for.

I got one of Amazon, AFX, I think it was about 60-70$, flat black, it's real nice, like the jackhawk 9000, they even have measurements for the sizes so you can get it right on the first shipping.

Oh snap, lucky for you there are now 50$:

Take a trip down to www.ogracing.com they have a ton of different helmets in stock in all different price ranges. You will want to try them on before buying, every brand fits differently.

I've never had a drag strip check my helmet until it started running 10's. So im pretty sure you would be ok with a cheap motorcycle helmet.
