Default Dome Light issue in my 02 wagon

Looking for possible ways to trouble shoot my problem. Cars an 02 wrx wagon Basically the rear doors have no effect on the dome light. they won't activate it when their open, which also goes for the alarm. I've swapped the actual pin switches with the fronts, and the switches are good. I've also tried to manually ground the switch out, no luck. I just pulled the rear cargo interior out, hoping to find a cut wire or a ground not connected, but no dice. The fronts have fine connectivity, just the rears.

Any advice?

I've tried to search a bunch of threads, but havn't found anything.

Check fuse #2 and make sure it is good. Also make sure the luggage light switch is in the correct mode for the doors.

checked the fuse, its good. I also checked the switch and it's also good.

The front doors trigger the dome light and alarm like they should, but the rear doors don't.

My info shows the two switches for the rear tie to a yellow wire which goes to pin 24 of connector R3. It looks like that connector is down near the floor of the passenger door, where the door opens. Look for that connector and check for corrosion on the pin.

I checked and there was definitely corrosion. so much that the wire was completely broken. since the pin wasn't reusable I simply make a small patch wire connecting the two. I also saw another broken wire on R1 and reconnected that one as well. no dice.

is the problem up further?

The trouble may be further up the circuit towards the power side or the wiring may be damaged further down the line towards the rear switches. To check that all you need to do is ground the wire you repaired. If the light turns on then you need to fix wire trouble further down the wire. If the light doesn't work then there is a problem further up. It looks like water has gotten to the wiring somehow and damaged things.

well the light doesn't turn on, and I just pulled the ENTIRE interior out of the car, all thats in there is the dash and carpet and driver seat. So I've eliminated the door switches from being an issue... hmmmm

Where can I find the body integrated unit or whatever controls the dome lights? I'm thinking maybe the wiring is messed up there or something.

If both of the front doors work, it's probably not the integrated module - it's almost certainly wiring - the switches work by grounding a lead when they are closed and the fronts are tied to the backs when going into the integrated module (well, according to the wiring manual, if the passenger side front door works properly, then the rears should as they are tied to it electrically before the module) - I am guessing you have damage further up the wiring harness, or your patches didn't make good contact. (when you open the rear hatch, does the light turn on? If it does, then the ground is bad for the rear door switches (you can work around by running a new one to pin 3 on the two rear door switches)

GOT IT.

the wire must have been corroded between the rear door and the plug by the passenger seat.

Last night I poured over the lighting and ground diagrams and had all of the schematics. so I reconnected the two corroded ends, and grounded it... dome light turned on. so then I simply made a completely different patch splice into the passenger rear door pin yellow wire, because thats where they all terminate, and IT WORKS. so I made the temp splices perm. and everything is kosher. Thanks for all of your help guys !!!
