Default 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Carbon slots in right below ZR1

What it doesn't have is the uber-cool carbon-ceramic brakes, carbon-fiber body panels and magnetic ride active damping system of its supercharged sibling. That can now be changed to past tense with the birth of the Z06 Carbon edition announced today by General Motors.

The Z06 Carbon was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first appearance of the Corvette at the 24 Hours of Le Mans when John Fitch and Briggs Cunningham won their class and finished eighth overall. The Carbon edition is essentially a Z06 with a ZR1 chassis and some of the carbon skin. When production starts this fall, only 500 examples will be made and they will only come in two colors, Inferno Orange and Supersonic Blue. All examples get black-painted wheels and a black interior upholstered in leather and suede. Follow the jump and we'll tell you more.

I wonder if in 2021 they'll have a '25th Anniversary' edition celebrating the long overdue redesign on the eyesore C4 generation.

The factory must be really twiddling its thumbs if they are making another version.

I really hope the number panels on the doors are just vinyl.

Otherwise, expect a lot of attention from your local pd...

P.S. Love it!!!

a number of club racing groups limit mods, so making a limited edition just for the total track junkies is a good idea. shame about those seats though.

sit in them before you knock them. Just because they don't say Recaro doesn't mean they suck

LOL. I have sat in the standard seats in a C6 Z06. The seats are fine for a spirited back road drive, but suck donkey balls for any kind of performance driving - autocross, track.

I'm riding shotgun in the following pics...

It would definitely be appropriate in my mind, for a limited/special edition Z06 to come with seats comparable to a Viper, RS4 or M3. They don't have to be 'recaros', but they should have much better lateral support.

road & track (i think) and pretty much every other car magazine says the seats suck ass, especially for a $120,000 corvette.

Doesn't the magneto-suspension take away from the point and shoot character of the car? I've read it is smoother and thus faster for most drivers, but is it as fun?

I think I like the new “Supersonic Blue” color.
My 06 is “LeMans Blue, but they only offered that color in 2005 through 2007.
I never cared for the “Jetstream Blue” that replaced it in 2008.

Seriously! The C6 should have had the black housings from the start. Body colored headlight housings are tacky.
