Default Closed threads (my thread is better than yours Chris)

So, I've been seeing a NASTY trend lately. Any time someone posts up looking for help with their car...the thread is shut down immediately.

I understand we have a sticky up top to discuss the "Shops and Techs" that work on Subarus (even giving free advertising to NON PAYING VENDORS.....but we'll cover that another time I guess), but what if someone isn't looking for that route? I do agree that if we have a "give me your opinion of XX shop or YY shop", than that should be closed. We have vendor reviews, and the sticky.

Seriously, I've done 90% of the work on my car, sometimes with the help of other forum members. This forum was originally based on the community aspect of helping each other out. It seems as though, if someone posts to request local help for an install (let's say coilovers in the Fort Hood area for example), the thread is automatically closed. This is ridiculous. How are we supposed to network to other members and request help outside of shop services? Should we randomly PM EVERYONE in our area to see if anyone would respond with help?

Seriously, a line needs to be drawn some where in the middle....not right on the edge of idiocy.

Thank you, and don't forget to tip your waitress (or server for you PC folks).

Default Car work help? (discussion)

So, lately every single thread asking about help working on a car has been closed. I understand that there is now a sticky with a bunch of vendors and what not, but what about all the random people that are usually up for helping other members out?

I know I have helped out numerous people on numerous occasions but with all the threads being closed these opportunities are now thrown out the window.

How does this work now? Because there is a list no one is allowed to ask for help? What if I don't want to pay $Texas to get some simple work done, why would I no longer be able to ask for help from a fellow member?

Personally, I have met and made friends with multiple people through helping them work on their car and always thought that it was a great part of our community, being able to ask peers for help. By not allowing members that opportunity I feel that they aren't being given the opportunity to meet new txic peeps or learn how to work on their own car.

WTF?

I agree with this. Many times it's just TXIC people looking for a little help from other TXIC people and nothing more than a hand shake and hardy thank you are needed as payment.

Maybe they are trying to shut down local help so they can make more money from paying vendors?

I predict thread closure in 3....2....

but seriously, I agree with your points. Maybe a sub-forum for networking for help with installs.

There's no need for a subforum, there's just no reason to close those threads. If anything they are the few threads in this section that actually pertain to both Texas and Subarus.

If this forum can't be used to help out other members why the **** even have it?

Come on Geoff, we're all waiting for your explaination...

I just saw that thread you were referrring to. That is lame. Dude was asking for any locals willing to help him out and he was referred to shops.

Honestly guys, this is a pretty serious situation and should be handled as such. I understand that TXIC gets OT often, but this shouldn't be the place. We don't need the BS in here.

I know that I have never paid a dollar to work on my car, and it was because I was willing to help and had the ability to meet people through this forum. Taking that away from TXIC is a big deal.

So I kindly ask that before you decide to be a post whore, think about what is going on here and attempt to help the situation. If not, I have no problem reporting every post that shouldn't be here. And those that agree with me should be doing the same.

Agreed. If I'd like some help to do some work on my car I should be able to ask. That is the point of having an online community. Not everyone wants to go to a vendor for everything. Some of us also go to vendors not on the sponsor list too. Sponsors should get exclusive Privileges but not exclusive access to NASIOC. Especially at the exclusion of ordinary owners/users asking for help.

Yeah I used to be a technician so had the tools and ability to do the majority of maintenance jobs for free....I enjoy helping the fellow enthusiast as that is what being in a club/crew/forum etc is all about.
