Default Front diff might be on its way out - what transmissions will work for me?

So, I have a couple of issues here :

-First, my front diff appears to be making noise, a humming, whirring noise at certain speeds. It gets worse when the car is turning. It's pretty loud around 40mph. Not like the world is coming to an end, but pretty damn loud. I'm thinking the a front diff bearing is on its way out. I mean it somewhat sounds like a bad wheel bearing but it's coming from the center or the car, in front of course.

Now, in looking for a replacement trans, I want to broaden my options as much as possible to make my search easier. I checked this thread :

Learning to Choose your Gear Sets/Ratios

and found a few which look like they might fit the bill. I'm not looking to change the rear diff unless I find a really sweet deal on a trans and diff set.

3.166 / 1.882 / 1.296 / 0.972 / 0.738 / 4.111FD - '05-'06 USDM Legacy 2.5GT

3.545 / 2.111 / 1.448 / 1.088 / 0.780 / 4.111FD - '96-'99 USDM Legacy 2.5GT
3.545 / 2.111 / 1.448 / 1.088 / 0.871 / 4.111FD - '96-'99 USDM Legacy Outback

3.545 / 1.947 / 1.366 / 0.972 / 0.780 / 4.111FD - '93-'94 USDM Impreza 1.8L

I've cropped out any trans which doesn't have a 4.111 final drive. Am I ok with any of the above (so long I'm happy with the gear ratios) or do I need to watch what I'm doing? Are the newer transmissions not compatible? Am I better limiting myself to Imprezas, 1st/2nd gen Foresters and 2nd and 3rd gen Legacies? If this front differential gets any worse, I'm going to want to replace it soon because I can't have anything catastrophic happen while the car is at speed.

I've dropped an input shaft bearing on a car before (at least it was from a stop light) but man it wasn't pretty and I don't want to get stuck anywhere with this car. Thanks for any info you can provide

Yes, sorry I didn't specify. I thought the inclusion of 5 gear ratios would give it away But yes, this is for manual transmissions.

What are the specifics regarding swappability of the different 4.11 transmissions? i.e. which will drop right in and which will need different mounts / clutch lines / etc? My trans is definitely getting noisy and if I need a new one I don't want to be stuck with any surprises while the car is in pieces.
