Default Subaru Cruise VII on 21-22 AUGUST 2010

Well kids you heard it here first.
Details will be coming.

SUMMARY

  • Summer 2010 Route will be a combination of Summer 2009 and Fall 2009 routes
  • We will run the cruise regardless of rain.
  • No more dirt roads - they will be kept at a minimum. Definitely not a repeat of the 100 miles of dirt roads (Fall 2009)
  • We will *try* to make sure there is 93 octane available but it is unpredictable. Wisconsin usually has 93 from past experience and there were no previous problems on this route.
  • We will check your car prior to departure. Obviously we can't check the mechanical integrity of the car - but NOBODY ON BALD TIRES WILL BE ALLOWED !
  • It will run 2 days - from early Saturday morning till early Sunday evening. Meeting place for Chicago Crew: Streets of Woodfield; Starbucks; 06:30 AM; 21st Aug 2010
  • We will stop for breakfast / early lunch at PAUL BUNYAN's, Wisconsin Dells. $12.18 a person, and they will accommodate our group, estimated to be 25 strong.
    Paul Bunyan's Restaurant
    411 State Highway 13
    Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965-8307
    (608) 254-8717
  • Any folks from Wisconsin should meet us at Paul Bunyan, WI Dells, around 09:30 - 10:00 AM Saturday 21st August 2010. Please be fueled up. Massive chaos always ensured when we try to refuel
  • Following brunch, the Chicago crew will refuel and the convoy will depart
  • We will be camping in Viroqua, Wisconsin. We plan on getting there no later than 5 PM. There are washroom facilities. I do not remember how much the fee was per tent but plan for about $20 or so.
  • Bring your camping $HIT: whatever that is: tent; water bed; teddy bear; shovel to bury your poop; flashlight; deep woods insect repellant (high % DEET); hand sanitizer; FOOD; BOTTLED WATER; BOOZE if you must.
  • There are local diners/fast food in Viroqua ; you are welcome to go there for dinner. But bring something to eat along as well for both dinner and breakfast. Try not to get wasted at noight. DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE. We would have more challenging roads the following day so everyone needs to be on top of their game.
  • DO NOT BRING & WE WILL CALL POLICE IF WE SEE
    - your guns (shotgun; rifle; handgun)
    - your throwing knife collection
    - your drug paraphernalia

More info will be provided in a timely manner.

SUMMARY OF CRUISE INSTRUCTIONS
SAFETY & HEALTH
must read ! I will quiz you !

http://www.stimpco.com/upload/f1anat...ctions_v01.jpg
Seriously guys. It may seem tough, it may seem an overkill but you have no idea how good and useful they are 'till you drive with us.
It comes with experience and among the 8 of us, we've driven many convoys and ran the cruises for 3.5 years by now and we know they work and they are needed.

I also need to update it a bit - I admit. We now have professional radios that work for miles making it unnecessary to "pass down" the instructions from head to tail. However hazard awareness and communication (such as incoming traffic) is still everyone's resposnibility towards everyone else.

RADIOS

We will operate on Channel 15 (GMRS radios) which is the same as Channel 22 (GMRS/FRS radios). The reason is this: in the past, using channel 4 (GMRS radios) we shared the radio waves with lesser equipment and since nobody truely understands if these radios really operate in a higher power (1 Watt) as opposed to the regulated max 0.5 Watt allowed for FRS equipment/FRS channels. So now we move into GMRS only territory which should allow us some more range. Check your radio settings.

Hey, this looks good! I'm free on both those days.

How many people made the last big organized cruise?

About 20-25 cars I'd say many with 2+ people

we have about 20-30 cars on each cruise; most people bring their significant others or other buddies so we have about twice as many people than cars. And we try to make them family friendly by scheduling events such as haunted houses; submarines; caves; wineries; breweries; other points of interest. We schedule the places to eat and the places to sleep and of course the route. NOW, that being said, small children and pets and people with motion sickness will not enjoy it. By and large we obey posted speed limits; the local rules and regulations and the convoy itself is well organized and the entire group has very strict behavior rules. We do not race each other; we do not race other people; we do not show off on the highway; we all respect each other; we all help each other. We also try to keep it in the Subaru family meaning other car clubs and strangers are NOT welcome to attend. It may sound exclusive but after 3 years of doing this, we know what works and what doesn't.

Once you attend you will find out that most people come again and again, we really are a functional cohesive group of people despite the general NASIOC appearance. We have a clear command and control structure and we plan everything and we take pride in getting everyone home safe and with a happy and unique experience. And year after year we managed to improve.

And Kamil, the static noise we hear in the radios is called SQUELCH
our radios have it, but they also have squelch control and I am working on finding the filtering setup to get rid of it. http://www.ehow.com/how_2089965_use-...-cb-radio.html

As I am new to the NASIOC Forums, (And Subaru for that matter) As a member of Team-Integra we had a yearly "Dragon Run" Where there was a massive caravan to the Tail of the Dragon in Tennessee. Has NASIOC ever thought of doing this or have done this before?

Just a thought.

This had been done before years ago. But I haven't seen it done in the last couple years. I think back to 2004 or 2005?

Seriously, we're just looking to mix it up a bit. With the exception of cruise #1, all the other cruises we have done were in Wisconsin. We need a change of scenery is all.

Believe me you WANT TO GO ON THE CRUISE! We always have a fantastic time, hit some nice roads, and have great stories to tell after. If you teetering on the edge, do yourself a favor and go. I promise you wont be disappointed.

The South East Region still makes one or two trips a year. Not sure if this is the most current thread or not: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1908423

....my vacation is still in planning. My 30th is the friday before the cruise and I can't decide where to go, we have the 24th of april - May 2nd off.

Option A: do the original 9 day back-road trip vacation somewhere, destination still tbd

Option B: do the cruise, then fly out monday to some warm beach with lots of alcohol and women for the rest of the week

Leaning towards B right now
