Default Loud exhaust

I'm thinking about getting the Turboxs exhaust for my 2009 WRX sedan. I heard it was very loud, I wanted to know if anybody with loud exhaust has been pulled over by the cops for being to loud?

no one has ever been pulled over in the state of Washington for loud exhaust.

yep i have been pulled over cuz my turbo xs was way to loud. its just one more thing for them to pull you over for. but if you like the sound go for it. the cops can get you for anything these days if they want to.

Running a full catless 3inch exhaust on mine with an occasional flame spitting here and there and I've only been pulled over a couple times. Cops are generally cool in my area if you have a clean driving record and don't do anything douchey in front of them

Now I just put an exhaust on my car so I can't speak too much about this subject but what I think gets people pulled over is the size of the canister. If you have a big old fart can on the end they are more likely to get you then if you have something that maintains most of the stock look. Do what you want though and if you get pulled over then switch it up.

If the OP is worried about getting pulled over the invidia should probably be the last one on his list, pretty damn close to the loudest exhahust out there.

Do you have it catted or catless?

Yup, I have the invida n1 with a Cobb catted dp. Hear that thing from a few miles away. Been pulled over two times in the last year or so. But I don't know about the turboxs OP. You may be a little better off....

You should be fine with loud exhaust as long as you dont drive around like a retard. Depending on the cops in your area. My exhaust is really loud but I have never been pulled over for it nor has a cop even mentioned it.

Just go for it and if you get unlucky and get pulled over for it just take it off and get something else.. not a big deal.

Speaking of exhaust since i saw this thread here's what i currently have and what im wanting to do:

Have: Kakumei 3" cbe with Kakumei unequal length headers. I went to put a catless invideo Dp on and the fitment was all wrong together with my resonater not clearing my driveline.

Want: To keep my Invidia DP and put the Invidia G200 on and keep my Kakumei headers along with obviously selling my current Cbe...thoughts?

Custom exhaust law sucks in WA. I'm thinking about Borla Hush for exhaust. Stock look, and better sound/performance(?) than factory is what I want. I don't want to get hussled by cops either. I'm thinking that with up pipe and down pipe mods, the engine is going to be screaming already or am I wrong on this?

^^^You'll probably sound a little louder than a STi catback w/ catted downpipe combo. Noticeable sound increase, but a little more subtle than others mentioned here.

OP, try searching for the GP Moto twin tip. I've only seen/heard it once, but for 3 inch catless tbe, it was actually not too loud. I'd say it was quieter than the invidia tbe's I've heard.

I'm currently running this catback on my STI. It's not too loud, not the loudest exhaust I've had on my car. Like someone already said don't drive like a retard. If you're in the Portland area sometime you can hear it for yourself.

This is the key to not being pulled over.

Though sometimes it can't be helped. Like if you're in Issaquah.
Or if you do some other offense in traffic.

now, one way to get around receiving the ticket is to have your exhaust tuned for volume... you are allowed 95Db as measured following a really funky system... but you can make your exhaust flow really well, and still be quiet enough to pass... and if he pulls you over for too loud of an exhaust, then you could show him that you did jump through the required hoops... once he sees that you did, yeah he will look for something else, and probably ticket you, but you would have some legal ground to stand on, as you could prove that he pulled you over for the exhaust, and then when he found you were legal, ticketed you for something else that he may not have seen unless you were already pulled over for the exhaust...

i know, i ramble...

and this is my $.02

It's still illegal to modify the exhaust. There's been a lot of threads like this. So no, cops don't go by the decibel crap.

Verbatim:
3) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the engine of such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle, and it shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle not equipped as required by this subsection, or which has been amplified as prohibited by this subsection. A court may dismiss an infraction notice for a violation of this subsection if there is reasonable grounds to believe that the vehicle was not operated in violation of this subsection.
