Oh there's lots to see and do, but my expertise goes with the aviation scene, if that's what you're into, like me. But I'd say you simply cannot miss Balboa Park, it's where the Zoo is, but there's also a myriad of museums there, including the San Diego Aerosoace Museum (just went there last week), and the SD Automotive Museum. And there's the Gaslamp District downtown, Horton Plaza.....etc etc.... Got any questions, lemme know, gotta fly!

Lots to eat and drink - plenty of nice canyon/mountain driving, even in a rental (get the new Maxima, btw). Of course, there's always shopping...

Dick's is in the downtown area, right off of Broadway, which is pretty much the main drag. Which srteet off of Boradway, I'm not sure, but I do know it's SOUTH of Broadway. You will see signs that say "Gaslamp District" In fact, just across the street from the SD Convention Center is a huge crosses-the-whole-srteet sign/marquis that annouces the Gaslamp District. The Conv. Center is at the farthest south end of downtown, near the Naval Base. If you do find it though then Dick's will be NORTH of that big sign. Hope that helps more than confuses, gotta fly!

Lightbulb

As far as Mision Valley goes - I live there, so I gotta say its even good for the long term stay! Right up the 15 you can drive about 20-30 min north to some great mountain roads to the east. A late night drive out I8 (when it's not burning) to drive through the State Park is always nice.
