Look what our spy photographers happened to catch at the Nürburgring recently: None other than the Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition. You're looking at one of exactly 50 examples on the planet (assuming this isn't some sort of pre-production mule), and we have to say that the two-tone paint and wild wing look right at home lapping it up on the Green Hell. As you may recall, Lexus hasn't exactly dished out the meaty details on specifically how much power the racier LFA produces. Instead, we're lead to believe that the glass-shattering V10 delivers "more than 562" ponies, and is equipped with race tricks like an adjustable front splitter and tweakable suspension.

Lexus decided to roll out the Nürburgring Edition to honor the car's participation in one of the most grueling spectacles in motorsports – the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Those willing to lay down the cash to get their hands on the car will receive all kinds of perks, including individual instruction on the Nürburgring itself, a year's pass to the track and a stylish track-branded jacket. Word is you can also get the car in black or white instead of orange if that hue doesn't float your fancy.

Did someone over at APC get ahold of an LFA?

I wasn't aware that bad paint schemes were property of APC. The Ferrari 599 GTO has a black roof, pillars, and mirrors as well. It gets a free pass based on essence, I suppose.

It leads to a lot of things that we're wondering now...

1. Were the "test drivers" in the BMW affiliated with him, or were they other test drivers that happened to be in the area?
2. How did they collide?
3. Why did the LFA driver veer out of his lane?
4. How fast were they going?
5. Was it driver error or a vehicle fault?
6. What effect will this have on the vehicle's launch and PR, as it wasn't only an accident involving catastrophic bodily injury but also the guy who pretty much ran the LFA program?
7. Was there no chance the driver had of survival (meaning the carbon fiber monocoque did its job in terms of safety but was at a point where it wouldn't have changed anything), or could the car have been safer?

R.I.P. to the driver, condolences to his family.

The roof of the 599GTO is a color option. I have yet to see one with an un-painted (or black) hood & body cladding.

Are you really comparing the looks of a 599GTO against the LF-A?

I really wanted to see this car do great things. But it didn't, it just got uglier. It is going to have to beat the ACR around 'the ring' to be impressive, and have to take down the GT3RS' time to be taken seriously. Unless the LFA APC edition pulls a out of its butt, 556hp with that curb weight isn't going to cut it. The LFA is turning out to be as impressive as a fat chick, who lost her leg to diabetes, eating KFC on a couch.

ps. you could have attacked the Viper ACR or ACR-X with their paint options too.

RIP for the test driver.

Nick

That sucks. RIP.

Two test cars running head on into each other, what are the chances of that?

^ That's a bit harsh... I think the LFA is plenty impressive, just not for the money, especially when there are less expensive alternatives out there that do the job just as convincingly. But that doesn't mean it's a crap car.

You're putting the horse ahead of the cart. The driver could have had a stroke and lost control of the car for all we know.

Well, that could've been #8 then. It's not in a specific order, it was just things that came to mind.

This is really sad, Hiromu Naruse was with Toyota for nearly 50 years, and either led or heavily influenced the development of just about every performance car Toyota has ever made; 2000GT, S800, AE86, fourth gen Supra, first gen MR2, first gen Celica, etc.

His influence on auto manufacturing was so profound, even Ferrari called him "Nur Meister."

RIP to an excellent human being.

We started posting about this in the LFA thread, by the way. Still sad every time I see it.
