Default Question on Air Bag Light with After market seats

Im installing a set of seats this weekend.

I'm giving my stock seats to a friend, he will not be installing them in a suby so he has no need for the air bag harness. I was just wondering if it would keep the light off if I cut the wiring on the seat leaving the clip installed on the airbag sensor.

That's a good question, but I don't think so. If I can remember correctly try a 10ohm resistor and plug it into the holes. That will keep the light off!

Just wire in a resistor. A search will reveal the proper size. Couple cents at RS.

Yes, its a 3.3 Resistor.

Well I've seen anywhere from 2.0 to 3.3, I have enough 10 ohm resistors(5 on each side) to run par to make 2.0 ohm by 1/4 watt.

I was just wondering if leaving the clip in would work also....

I would doubt it, its just a continuation of the same wires with the same missing signal.

I believe it is 3.3Ω, but a 3Ω resistor will also work. Install like this and secure with electrical tape.

Ever hear of search?

Anyways, your question has already been anwered, 3.3ohm resistor, but anything from 3-4 technically works...even combining a 1.5 and a 2ohm to make it work.

The reason this would not work is that the 2 ohms the airbag control module must see is not really dependent on the harness; it is dependent on the airbag inflator.

The inflator has either one or two (depending on type) igniters. These igniters work similar to a fuse. They have a filament that is very thin and give a specific resistance when a certain predetermined current is passed thru it. If enough current is passed through it, it will burn out and ignite propellant in the process. After that it will show infinite resistance because the filament is broken and the circuit is open. The airbag control module then knows that the bag has been deployed (or removed or otherwise not operational) and it will trigger a light.

3.3 may work, but the industry standard (what the airbag control module is programmed to look for is 2.0 0.2 ohms.

Did you ever learn how to read???

Where in my question did I ask what resistor to use. I know its been said a million times which is why I didnt ask. What I DID ASK was if i could just cut the harness and use that....

Ooops, That's true. Maybe I should take more English courses.
I'm just so used to seeing a ton of threads regarding what resistor to use.

^^All good haha...I just took that personally since I def. search before posting questions that have been covered.

I retract my "learn how to read" question

Well I just put my seats in. I used 4 10 ohm by 1/4 ressistors parralell. It comes out to a 2.5...

Worked like a charm
