So I'm curious how this clutch and tranny will hold up.
What is the proper way to drag race start (either drag race or SCCA Pro Solo style) starts on this car (2009 WRX). I'm thinking its a redline clutch slip/drop, but with AWD that sounds a bit scary, especially on slicks. Feedback?

you have such a low member # and you seriously dont know the answer the this question? heres a hint of advice, never launch @ redline if you value your driveline... start @ around 4k and up the rpms until you dont bog.

im assuming he meant to say r-comps for auto-x, which in essence are "slicks"

Check the autox forum for launch technique for ProSolos.

I have my launch control set to 5500 rpms on my 02 with 275 rcomps. Works pretty well for me.

Unfortunately I've not owned my 2009 WRX since 2000, so my low member number doesn't give me the practical experience I was looking for with regards to the particulars of the 2008-09 WRX, and neither did your reply.

Ah I C. Well, to the OP. Don't do REDLINE clutch slip. I honestly don't see why launching a '09 would be much different than any other years. Personally I would try 5k and clutch slip.

from what's i've read, and it works well for me (although I've never drag raced...)
rev to 3k-4k while holding your clutch right below the catch point, let out the clutch in a quick/smooth motion, while pressing the throttle to the floor at the same time... do some more research on proper launching and you should find some similar results! Simply revving it high and letting the clutch slip causes excess wear on the clutch! |
