Default 6 speed swap into 09 WRX

So I did a search and this topic has been beaten to death for older models, but I have not seen anything related to an 09 WRX....I saw one post about a guy trying to put an 05 sti trans into an 08 but Im looking at doing a straight 08+ to 08+ swap and just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this particular swap, and what you found was needed to make it work. Appreciate the specific info guys.

It's mostly the same as the other years. Things to keep in mind about the newer models:

Push vs. Pull type clutch (replace clutch slave, clutch, flywheel, etc)
3.9 FD rear diff (new rear diff or 6MT with 1:1 center ratio)
Clutch Linkage (08+ required due to length)

Doing the swap in February on my 2008 wrx after holding off for a year.
I will be swapping to 5x114.3 hubs and all, since I got a full 2010 driveline cheap enough.

2008+ sti are direct fittment minus the axels which need cv conversion or hub swap .

I am using 2010 sti setup

All parts are 08+ sti unless stated
6spd
Driveshaft - I am using a pst cf
Rear diff
6spd Transmission mount
R180 Rear diff mount
6sp shifter and linkage
Starter
Clutch fork
A new aftermarket clutch and flywheel or stock sti 04+
Dccd pro controller

You have two choices for rear axel setups you can keep 5x100 or switch to 5x114.3 .
Now the rear ether needs a set of custom axels the ways I have heard about are

Wrx axels with switched inner spec be cv to the diff side
Or
Monkiboy has a company making a set not made yet of conversion axels to keep 5x100
Or
switch to 5x114.3 hubs and axels

On the front the stock axels can be used .
Or
Swap to 5x114.3 to use the thicker sti axels

I will update any findings I have and a 100% list after the swap

I just bought an 06 STI tranny, axles, diff and driveshaft for my 09 wrx. Trying to figure out what we are doing with hubs and rear axles. Should be getting into it more this week. Will keep posted.

Just finished a swap into a 2011 wrx

All you need is:

-2007 or newer STi trans (we used 2010 sti trans that came with shifter and drive shaft)
-08 or newer sti drive shaft
-02 thru 05 wrx r160 (if you don't want to go crazy and buy new wheels)
-r180 flange to attach sti drive shaft to r160
-STI slave cylinder
-STI clutch and flywhweel

Front axles can be reused, no need to swap (same as older swaps I've done)

If you use auto lgt drive shaft you don't have to swap flanges on the r160

Drive shaft on 07 and older sti is shorter than newer wrx and sti, Linkage is as well

A couple clarifications:
  • 06 STI tranny will also work, but it will have shorter gears
  • You need the 08+ shift linkages, the older ones are too short
  • The 08+ Impreza AT driveshafts also work with the 6MT and r160
And there are also many other ways to do it (ie. 04-05 tranny and keep the stock rear diff, etc.). The way you did it is nearly the same as how I did mine except I used the Impreza AT driveshaft and unmodified r160. I also put in the Spec B long gears.

For rear axles, can the Legacy Spec B axles be used to mate the R180 diff to the stock hubs (this is what the LGT folks do)? The 08+ WRX platform is similar to the 02-09 Legacy, but I don't know if the axle lengths and outer hubs are the same.
