Ha... finally an STi to replace my dearly-departed Evo RS... Oh wait, I close on a house next week...

So let me get this right...a more downgraded STI with some minor performance bits for $33,000?

I had a 03 evo 8 and a 05MR and i really miss the evo direct feel. I'm thinking about upgrading my WRX to the STi SE. My question is how does it compare with your RS handling wise?

It feels considerably more confident and precise. You can feel most everything on the road, but not so much that it's jarring or distracting... and, under power, steering seems pretty neutral. You should definitely check it out.

Haha t33 decide your other post was went or something? I've been in a rabbit and an sti, gotta say the sti is better. I'll give you that there are beamers and Audis with better interiors for te price, but they don't have the performance an sti does. I mean atthat point, you could get an outback with a nicer interior, but it won't be as much fun now will it? You gotta take the compromise sometimes. Unless you have the cash to shell out for a fully supped up Audi a4 you aren gonna get both...

Yeah my post went off track so I trimmed it down.
Basically you can't dispute STI performance (and once upon a time value/bang for the buck), but at the price it's demanding now, it's no longer acceptable to skimp on things found as standard equipment on much lesser cars by much lesser brands.
To introduce an even further trimmed down STI just goes too far considering it's pricepoint.

I, for one, hope they give us another one with the 2011 body style updates (and hopefully a little more stiffening, since the 2011 STi basically already has these guts in it). I am planning on purchasing an STi next year, and this would be perfect.

Just test driven it. The car feels flipped compared to the evo. The turn in is not as fast or sharp but the turn out is faster than the evo. The steering is slower thus better for everday use but for these types of AWD cars it really needs a faster rack.

Since these tires are not as agressive as the evo i feel this car can very well feel just as aggressive if using tires in the same calibre as the RE070. The spec C was tunned with stickier tires thus the performance feel may improve a great amount with that changed.

Still cant decide between this or the S4. $12K more for the interior, ride and no noise.

^ don't forget you don't get to have a wagon if you go s4. Bu that's a great point about the tires. I've never driven an evo, but if the stock tires on the subarus are in the same shape they were a couple years ago then a new set of decent summer tires will definately change the feel of the car drasticly.

The new Road and Track has a first drive on the Special Edition. They had stated it has achieved .95 on the skid improving .5g's over the last STI. That is pretty good since the tires are the same with handling improvements.

My wife and I bought one of these in Blue a couple weeks ago. Coming out of an 06 WRX Limted. It rides like a skateboard...and we love it! It handles like a cat on velcro. The tires are sticky but they are also loud as hell. My wife drives it a little harder than I do. She can now take corners at nearly double the speed she could with her 06 WRX.

We could care less about the dimished stock audio because we always mod our audio systems anyway. I'd rather buy 4 premium speakers instead of 10 semi-premium speakers at over double the cost!

The car accelerates like a bat out of hell. Especially past first gear. Her modded 06 WRX felt more powerful from first gear until about 6-7k rpm. After that, the pull from the STi is just down right evil.

I would recommend getting the short throw shift kit with the car. Have it installed at the time of sale so you get the full Subaru warranty on it. It's awesome. Really improves the feel and speed at which you can change gears.

Other than all that power, my favorite feature are the wheels. Other than the normal, base STi wheels, these are the only wheels I like.

The first 125 were aw. After that, they had a couple other color choices. I think world rally blue, obsidian black pearl, and whateverthat grey/slate color is called.

For those of you interested in getting an STI SE still, I was checking in with my dealership and there are only three SE's left between the states of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. All three are located in Florida (2 grey and 1 black) in one in Pensacola and two in Miami.

They are great cars and I'm having a blast with mine!

Good Luck!

Youcant even order them any more? Gah oh well. Hopefully they will make some in the 2011 style so I can pick one up next year. Stupid rent getting in the way of saving for a car.

sold my wrx, looking for an sti. Found a 2010 with high miles (60,000) in my budget at an audi dealer. I realized its a special edition after checking out the old school heater knob. I noticed on the test drive there was no mpg meter next to the clock, but haven't seen that mentioned anywhere on here. Does the special edition 10' sti not want us to know her miles per gallon?

Change your Trip meter to A or B. If you don't have it on one or the other, it doesn't display the AVG MPG.
