Post And you thought your auto-x course was tight?

Just got this link from the mailing list of my local motorsport club. I thought I'd post this in the general forum for everyone to enjoy!

Yes, it's a video of a WRX racing, but legally at a VERY VERY TIGHT auto-x! Watch and enjoy everyone!

Skills?!?!? All he did was power a big hp car around with some wheel spinning oversteer. All you need is some spinning tires. Fishtailing is not fast. That course was stupid. Almost like it was just a way to show the power of the car.

Skills!?!? yes, skills. I haven't even seen this vid yet (SGI's don't have anything to play avi files) but from the link, I can tell this is a gymkana event. Drifting is big in Japan, Just drive on just about any mountain, or twisty road there and you'll see tire marks everywhere. I say it takes skill to keep a car is a controlled power slide through one turn let alone an entire course.
Plus it's a good way to burn off the RE92's.

Oh POOPOO on you jlyttle!

That was awesome, even if it wasn't an "official autox". You can't tell me that pulling near continuous controlled 180s and 360s around cones in a lot barely 3 cars wide doesn't take some skills.

I wish I had car control like that.

And did you notice the poor FWD civic taking off right at the end. That is one course where a serious RWD car would have a bit of an advantage.

not a mac friendly format so i don't know how tight it was, but at the test and tune hear on sunday, there was a nasty little decreasing radius hairpin that i actually had to downshift into first for. i have never had to do that at an auto-x before.

Bah! I did something like that the last time it snowed in my companie's parking lot. Less traction made up for less power. I don't feel skilled because I can do donuts and figure eights on spinning tires.

What I'd like to know is how they remember the iterations around the cones. SCCA-type courses don't loop back on themselves nearly like that, although looping elements can happen.

how are you guys viewing this clip? i've tried with both media player and quicktime 5.0 with no success so far - they both claim it is an unknown codec so I only get audio.
