Default anyone using Honda oil filters?

I read that Honda filters work on our cars. BTW I drive a 2002 WRX. Anyone using Honda oil filters? I can get them for free which would help save some money.

thanks

I think those Honda filters are made by fram...

If you dont care, go for it. The filters do fit

I don't really know what I'm talking about here, but it's my understanding that different oil filters that look the same and "fit" different cars aren't interchangeable because of the different bypass springs and such...

i know that fram uses the same filter for hondas as well as our cars. now if you're talking about getting a factory honda oil filter, i'm not sure it that will work or not.

try one of the dealers on here had a deal awhile back... case for like $40... but that's long past.. try calling Mastro, Prestige, Troncalli, Exeter, or Irvine and seeing if they'll ship you a case.

If you don't care about your warranty, then go ahead. Otherwise, read WRXSTi69's (I suspect he work[s/ed] for Subaru) in:

That thread mostly dealt with the bypass valve in the filter. Fram filters are the same for both Hondas and Subarus. The ToughGuard model has the bypass valve. The Honda filters are of a slightly larger diameter that the Fram, but i believe the filter that came on my Subaru was slightly larger too. The Honda filter has a bypass valve. Now they do have a new Honda filter -real skinny. Not sure what's up with this. My wife's 2001 Civic came with one. When I talked to the Honda parts department, they gave me the fat one, saying the skinny one was only for factory install. Then I saw the skinny ones on their shelf a couple of moths later. ANyway, if you were going to do it, you'd want the fat one for the Subaru.

edit: sorry about the spelling - gimpy borrowed keyboard.

I just talked to my friend at honda and he said the skinny ones are for the new 2001+ civics.

Thanks, I'll have to go in and talk to them again at the parts department. It sure is handy having the same filter for three of my cars though!
