Looks like a shallow angled hatch window like the Focus RS. As much as I missed the sedan, the hatchback design just began to grow on me. Sedan version sti would be great though, just if they rework it so it doesn't look like a hyundai back end.

I like the wagon/hatchback STI better The current model sedan's aren't very attractive.

^ Splinter was mostly likely referring to the RB26 Twin Turbo era of the skyline which was (is) a beast at ~330hp. This was circa 1998-2001 when the import scene was really taking off. We all know what happened next, as they went VQ...

Subaru at the time had the 22B with ~350hp... then the GD chassis was introduced with probably the S201 being the iconic car at the time. I believe the first GD STI was 280hp.

The point is today's GTR is far more car then the STI, that is a given, but it wasn't too long ago when they were in the same league.

i wouldnt consider an R33 GTR to be comparable to a GC8 or GDA. 22b, sure but look at production numbers between the GTR and 22b. dont get me wrong, anyone would take a 22b over an R33. but then again were talking "STI"s to GTRs not "production" WRC cars to GTR's lol

i wouldnt consider an R34 GTR to be comparable to any GDB sti.

and i certainly wouldnt consider any subaru production model ever made to be comparable to the R35 GTR. not the 22b, not any S201,2,3,4 whatever.

i seriously doubt subaru could ever make a vehicle with the performace of a new GTR at the price nissan offers it for. i hate to say it but its just a plain old fact. look at lexus and the LF-A. that thing is $375grand and the GTR kills it. it crushes it in the 0-60 but the LFA just sneaks by by about 15mph at top speed. but its a quarter of the price.

we are super biased to the subaru brand. many of you might "want" a 22b or RA-R more than a new GTR but thats because it has a cult like following and you have an emotional tie towards it. if we are talking money, power and performace and over all package, the GTR has never been in the same class as a production STI. its always been way more money, has always had way more potential to make insane power with relatively little effort. sure stock they have about the same power "japan spec" because they GTR like the supra were massively under tuned to meet regulations. but slap a tune and a catback on a GTR and thats over. or.... bring the GTR to north america (finally) and you can see what a japanese twin turbo 6-cylindar can actually produce when they arent held back by "JDM'' regulations. even the old 300zx TT was insanely fast for the year and with minor mods can produce ridiculous power. the only time ive seen a subaru in the same "class" as a GTR was on gran turismo and IIRC it was double the price on there too lol.

hate on me all you want. i love both subarus ive owned. i think they are great performing, affordable, fun to drive and very practical but they sure as hell aint no super car.

I think autoblog also realized that there's no way that's a sedan under that veil, they changed their headline after I copy and pasted it into this thread! .... bastards!

just watch best motoring. They compare all the above cars and drive them on one of the most famous tracks even if they aren't considered to be in the same classes lol.

I'll photoshop a Yugo under there. You can make almost anything fit if you try to

The sedan one doesn't look quite right in the rear window area to me.

I hope they switch the STI back to a sedan. My hatch will hold it's value better. Until the GR came out I wouldn't of ever considered paying 50k for an STI.

Anyone that tries to compare at GTR and STI is a joke. For the price I don't think you can compare any used or new car to a GTR. You would know if you've driven one.

Loomin knows what he's talking about.

Possibly the only way to make some of their designs uglier would be to copy other companies' ugliest designs.

Oh, and IMO, STi and GTR were never in the same league. STi and Evo were always the "little brothers" to a Skyline. Its the same as Mustang/Camaro to Corvette. Sure some of the same power and performance numbers in general, but really a step down.

And the wing on the hatchback, as in the mock-up, look terrible. Has the actual picture been released yet?
