Default Radar detectors

So I've searched NASIOC. Now I'm interested to see what you guys in the NW have for a radar detector if one at all. I hear lots of good things between the Escort and V1.

Debate on!

I don't know that it's the best anymore, but I've never gotten a ticket with the V1.

It's really annoying in the city (goes off all the time b/c of auto-door openers) but I heard there's a way to program that out.

On the freeway where it really counts, I get warnings for radar over a mile out (or further on straight roads). I like that it makes different sounds for different signals, so you never have to look at it, once you learn them.

Those annoying beeps are easy to turn off. I had one, and took the x band out

The thing I didn't like about having it was it gave me a sense of false confidence, and sense a lot of cops use laser these days its not such a good thing. The only warning you get from laser is if it hits a car in front of you first

Basically if you have the money, get a V1.

I have an Escort Passport 8500 and it works well for me.

I have the V1.. had it for 4 years and love it. And yes you can program them really easily. Just hold the main button to switch modes or there is a more in depth way too. I bought mine on the V1 website for 400 back when I got it too but worth every penny.

This too. Happened to me yesterday as I was coming over a bridge. I wasn't speeding or anything and no other cars were either, but as soon as I was at the top of the bridge, BAM laser. Thing started going crazy... Would have been too late anyway.

I was broke when i purchased my radar detector. I bought a cheap *$50* "whistler" radar and have only been pleased with it. For the money it works great. Has saved me several times.

Certainly wouldnt warn me in time if i was traveling 25+ mph over the posted limit, but it is great for my driving style.

On my old car I had a beltronics radar hooked up to a laser deflector kit. I don't remember the exact model but it didn't cost me more than $600. Best investment that I have made in a long time.

I paid $250 on craigslist for the V1. You gotta run their serial number on V1's website first to see how "old" it is. I got lucky and ended up with a current one. Which brings me to a good thing about the V1, whenever a major update to the product comes out, you send them your old one and they replace it with a new one for $-$$$, depending on how out of date yours is.

I have a Blinder M25 laser jammer, works great. Saves me about once a month. It does set off false alarms sometimes but its no big deal. I think it was about $350 maybe.

I have a V1 that i haven’t used in ages. It’s nice, but I need to get the front detector replaced and I have just been too lazy to get it done. That said, all the posts on here are correct. If you wanna be safe, get yourself a good laser jammer. The money is better spent there than on radar detection now a days.

Default Escort Passport 9500ix

I have a Passport 9500ix and love it! It covers the full spectrum of frequencies and you can choose what to include or not. It's equipped with GPS and can be synced with the Escort Database for speed traps, red light and fixed position speed cameras. Scares the hell out of ya the first time it identifies one. My girlfriend jumped out of her seat when we were 600 ft. from a red light camera in Lynnwood. You can even mark speed traps you find and upload into the database so other 9500ix owners can get access to the updates. It also auto learns and blocks out false positives. That's uploadable as well.

For my enthusiastic driving, this has saved me several times and I highly recommend it to anyone who's looking to buy or upgrade.

Do you guys just suction them to your winshield? Does anyone have their's looking flush with the car? I'm trying to avoid the annoying power cable down the middle.

It's pretty easy to hardwire the detector up into the map light under the headliner where you'll find some decent ground spots and a switched 12v lead. The kit included a t-splice and it just snapped right in place. It took me all of 15 minutes to install my v1, and now I all I have to do to remove it is unplug the phone cord that pokes out of the headliner and remove the suction cups from the windshield.

I've been correctly warned countless times by my v1 and I've only gotten one $20 ticket via some highway patrol POP radar bull*****.
