Default Damn pickup trucks

OK I have had a tiny crack in my windshield (say 1/2 inch) for about a month, and it hasn't grown, well until this morning. Doing the usual run up mopac to get to work and a small stone fly's out the back of a pickup truck and straight into the windshield. Now that 1/2 inch chip is approx 8 inches and so I need to get myself a new windshield. Damn pickup trucks (don't understand them but thats for another topic).

Anyway fellow Austinites, where is a reliable place to get a windshield replacement that won't brake the bank?. My deductable is $500 and so no insurance claim, and I wouldn't use it if it was covered. Is it possible to get one with the tinted strip along the top or is that asking too much?. Is the WRX a strange sizing?

I had a small chip/crack explode on me once.

was a mere 1/4" crack in the lower center of the window.

was a cold day, snow on the window.. and I turned on my defrosters.
apparently the temperature change was enough to cause the crack to instantly grow about 25".. made a really loud bang when it did.

Thumbs down

Something has to be done about these debris throwing trucks... Nothing sucks more than hearing the grit blasting your car as you drive down the highway. It really sucks. There is info and laws supporting the fact that they ARE responsible for damage their "load" causes... There is strict UCC code that states exactly what is acceptable loss from a load, and rocks/dirt clumps arent part of it.

I will get more info...I will be DAMNED if I am going to get some damage on my sweet new ride and NOT do something (legal) about it... The farked part about it all is having to pull over a big pissed-off rock hauler guy. The good part will be making them pay.

More to come...
