What kind of car ?
What other mods do you have ? if all you have done is intake and exhaust than no reason to take it to a shop.
I would suggest either an access port of Open source tune. (both can be done at home)
Experiences with Racing greed and Maxwell performance have been good as well.

shop tunes will cost you quite a bit and those arent some major mods. There are a few guys around Vancouver here that can opensource tune for you. Get in touch with linkseal, he helped me out alot when I first started tuning. and there are some others im sure.

Maybe you guys should give the OP more info than just buy a tactrix 2.0 and flash xpt map in to your ecu.

I would say on the 08-10 Rocket would be Bestest choice out of the two really good tuners.... just with the volume of 08-10 Subys they have had a chance to tune and work on.

Really you would trust anyone with a cable and a lap top to tune your $35-40k car? What means does Jo Blow have to ensure it's not knocking and blows up your car? Especially with how touchy 07-2010 ECU's can be...

Sure do that on your home garage/project car that you don't give a crap if you have it down for a week or a year....but on a DD that you just spent $40k really do you think that's a good idea? Heck you even took your car down to Dom to get it tuned and dialed in because you couldn't...

I have a stock tune from Rocket Rally and it's really good. I didn't have to get a custom tune at all.

07 GD is not that bad. Thanks to the Dual AVCS maps on GRB. GRB is bit of touchy and you need a flash or a tune anyway even it is stock.

To OP, for the mods you have now you don't need pro-tune anyway, performance/price ratio is low for your mods, you may consider AP stg2 base for plug&play, or XPT maps if you will DIY Opensource later on.

Mind OP you need to rescale your MAF if you are not using stock airbox system. Not to mention on stock map it is bit of lean during the mid-load zone.

Don't forget there is a liability issue here. You are assuming the OP is gonna follow a certain path in tuning his own car. Now god forbid what if something went wrong and damage occurs, will you or anyone who suggested that the OP does self tuning or will the OP have to pay for the damage? Where as if the OP takes the car to a reputable shop, it is covered if damage occurs due to tuning fault by the shop. Also, self tuning usually entails trial and errors where as a reputable shop provides hassle free results.

Link 07-08 ECU dual maps are very similar and have the same type of tuning issue's.. Cobb took over a year to come out with some half decent maps but even then compared to a Dyno Tune even a stag 2 it is a huge difference.

Charts don't lie see below... AP2 Stag 2 map (base line) VS. Rocket Dyno Tune... Huge difference in drivability, power and response... Also Link anyone putting down real power in 07+ Subaru's are running stand alone ECU's because of the tuning issue of the factory system...

I'm just saying if I was in your shoes I wouldn't recommend, tune, or even touch 07+ Suby's.... for the slight chance that the engine POP's... do you have a legal waiver contract when you tune people's cars? Do you know what detonating sounds like before and during it happens? DO you tune with a mechanic's Seth scope to hear that nails rattling in a pop can sound? DO you compression test the engine to make sure it's running properly before pushing it?

I'm just saying from a person with a string of bad luck with 07+ Suby's that has had 3 engines in 33k and have spent close to what the car it worth....It's not a risk worth taking and why would you?

I have done some dissections back in high school on a cow heart so does that qualify me to do open heart surgery on you?

I'm not trying to be harsh or anything but protect you from possible law suites.

woah now, easy.....

my car is a lot more than a stage 2 sti....at that point it was a hybrid ej251/257, sohc, cams, blah blah blah with standalone em...a lot more difficult to tune....believe me, if there was an OTS map for the car that had the same track record as something like a XPT or a cobb stage 2 map i would have jumped all over it...

but for a stage 2 sti, there's literally thousands of cars with the exact same setup, and thousands running OTS stage 2 maps without problems, be it open source or cobb.

Yes getting the car actually tuned is better, but there's nothing wrong with an OTS map. It saves a lot of money and time.

but personally.....you ask if i'd personally would flash a 40K brand new car? **** no...i would never modify a $40K car in the first place....for me i'd rather buy something cheap that i wouldn't have to worry about losing all kinds of money on, and i wouldn't piss around with stage 2, stage 2 bores me. thats why right now my el cheapo RS is sitting the shop, undergoing major surgery, going on the 4th engine, because i enjoy the challenge and putting in the work, maybe even more than actually driving the car....

and obviously an actual tune is going to get you better numbers.....OTS maps are made to be safe, they are not aggressive at all. its not rocket surgery
