Sorry, somehow I missed your post. The part number you posted a few posts above is correct. Not sure about the link above. Those appear to be the auto shift buttons.

Thanks Nelly...
I got the parts and I can say the Legacy 05-07 buttons fit the GD (not GR) DAMD wheel...
Now I got to wire them to the Sony XNV-770BT. I guess I need PAC SWI-PS
Is this the right PAC?

a lot of reading... right here

Does anyone know if the airbag cover(?), the leather/faux piece that sits on top of the wheel with the Subaru or STI logo, can be separated from the airbag unit itself?? I am looking at swapping an 08 STI cover into a 08 Legacy GT.

Having never worked with the Subi steering wheels directly I figured this would be the best thread since all of you seem to have experience handling the airbag unit separately from the wheel.

Thanks,
Charles

PS: For clarity the pic below illustrates what I am looking to do. Transition from the Legacy airbag cover to the STI airbag cover without having to purchase a whole SRS II setup

So what do you actually have? An 08 Legacy complete wheel with airbag, and just the cover from an STI airbag? Or do you have the complete STI airbag as well?

Sorry for the lack of clarity. I have an 08 Legacy GT Limited with the stock wheel w/ airbag (cruise audio etc.).

I am trying to duplicate some aspects of the JDM Tuned by STI model. With that I am wondering if you can simply take the cover off of a non-used airbag or if the covers are permanently attached to their respective airbags. Star Cluster for Legacy and STI Badge for Impreza's.

I am hoping that I could simply go to a salvage yard and remove a leather horn plate from an STI. The full airbag replacement would be a little expensive for me at this point.

Hope this helps and thanks for your reply

Ok, I see now. I do not know if the cover itself is removable. I would think it would be, but have never tried. Unfortunately, the likeliness of you finding an airbag still in a car at a JY will be slim to none. Then on top of that getting them to part the bag out? Almost all the time, junk yards remove these and sell the airbags complete. Think about this. What is a JY going to be able to do with an airbag that has no cover? Anyone that is going to need an airbag will also need to replace their cover.

Your best bet will be to source a complete airbag, and then sell yours off. You shouldn't have any problem selling it as STI bags are extremely hard to find, so anyone wanting to upgrade to a GR wheel would be glad to have yours as well.

Thanks for the input. I will continue to look further into this. I don't have any contacts in Subi parts departments, but if it does remove as both you and I assume then there has to be a part # for it. I will call some national shops and see what comes of it.

For those asking about which diodes to use, these would work just fine. Click Here For Diodes

Hey guys I got a question about this setup. I have read the DIY a couple of times just to make sure everything can be done by myself. I have an 05 Legacy and converting to an 08 wheel. Anyway when you talk about the Cruise control my Legacy has a 3 pin white connector on it. I am handy with wire but have no Idea how to read wiring schematics. so any help in getting the ability to have the audio and cruise to work would be great.

Has any one seen any one try to swap the 08+ STI wheel in to a GC or GF?

i bought the 08 STI wheel for a price i could not pass up.... including every thing from the clock spring, wheel, air bag, controls... i have a 2011 radio in my car so that will be easy to work over.

If I'm correct

I can put a 05 STI single stage airbag in to a 08+ wheel
The 05 STI single stage charge will plug in to a 00 obs single stage plug?
I would have to figure out the CC...

For the GR steering wheel with integrated bluetooth contol buttons, is it true that BT buttons use same pink wires like the audio control buttons?

I want to wire in mine and retain BT buttons to use with the HU, but can't find wiring diagrams anywhere
