The Official 2010 Washington Redskins Thread - J.Campell signs 1 year tender.. trade?

Well here it is.. another off-season that started off hot, and brought us several big names, doesn't appear to be slowing down..

You may have already heard that the beginning of the off-season yielded us Mike Shanahan, a great coach IMO, but have lost us Joe Bugel and Chris Samuels, staples in our offensive line for years now. The month of March only heated up as we inked Larry Johnson, Rex Grossman, Josh Bidwell, and Phillip Buchanon. Well, today my friends, we can breath easy. Larry Johnson and Rex Grossman don't appear to be the new face of our franchise as we have also signed Willie Parker (as you may know from the Super Bowl champion Steelers) and traded for Eagles QB Donovan McNabb.... I kid you not....

Personally, I think these are good moves... but I'm sure there will be plenty of those who disagree with me..

What do you think MAIC???? How are you feeling about this off-season so far? Most importantly, how do you feel about McNabb suiting up in Burgundy and Gold??

YES! There is one year here for success if Portis/Betts/Cooley/Randle El/Moss are healthy!! It might be only one yr though in 'washed up heaven', I would have rather gone after Vick... since he still has his legs/run-game.

Our O line will take care of Donovan I believe. Now we just need a coach to call more throwing plays. This vaults Skins to near the top I think.

(PS yes I'm a 'skins fan in philly...)

We will see what happens, I heard they're going for O/D Liners in the draft but I am unsure if they have given up all of this yrs picks to get Donny or if one or more is for next years?

Seems like this is a one year shot-at-a-chip type deal by both signings of mcnabb and parker.

Why did we get McNabb.. I just don't see the point. Maybe he'll be used as a trading point for someone else in a few weeks. I like the Willie Parker acquisition, though (who wouldn't?).

PS: I haven't been following the redskins off-season at all, too infatuated with the team in my quick info

Why? Because Jason Campbell hasn't proven anything in the past 5 years... or maybe because McNabb brought the Eagles to 5 NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl, or maybe because McNabb is a proven leader and winner, and at 33, has plenty left in the tank. Not to mention we just took an inter-division rival's starting QB, which ultimately could lead us to two more wins in it in itself.

This move is genius, we got him for next to nothing, and JC will be traded for a 2nd rounder. Within the next few years the redskins will get a rookie to learn under McNabb. Jason Campbell was NOT the future for the Redskins... hell, he wasn't the present for them either!

The first pick in the the Redskin's draft will be Russel Okong (Left Tackle)... right there is the replacement to Chris Samuels... and we can continue to to build the line. NOW we have a leader at QB, one who makes great decisions. McNabb KILLEd us for 10 years, now we have him.

Great move by the front office + Shanahan. For diehard fans, this year is giving us PLENTY to be excited about. New GM Bruce Allen, new coach, new QB, new runningbacks, no more Randle El (couldn't stand him!), 4th pick in the draft likely to be a great Offenisive tackle for the next 10 years....

I think the moves are a big plus even though willie parker hasn't been quite the same since he broke his leg and larry johnson didn't do too much with the bengals last season after being released from the chiefs. The Donovan mcnabb trade I really like think was a great move. They still play in a very tough division where all 3 other teams were above .500 last year.

being a ravens fan I could care less but it is nice to see Bruce Allen coming in making good moves and keeping daniel snyder's dumb face out of the news

Vick isn't that good. And even if he were, he is not good for the system the Eagles run. Kolb is definitely more accurate even though he has less arm strength.

As an Eagles fan this is fairly depressing. I would have given up Reid 100x before I would have given up McNabb. He is certainly a top 10 QB, and some years top 5.

larry johnson averaged ~4.5yds/carry for the bengals. willie parker is the perfect back for shanahan's system, 1 cut and gone. portis should find success again. shanahan has proven over the years that he can make any rb productive in his system. the best part? both lj's and willie's contracts are incentive laden with minimal guarantees. they're gonna be hungry to get touches which will push all 3 rbs to produce.

throw in a top 5-10 qb and a rebuilt OLine? they might not make it to the playoffs but they'll win more than 4 games and no team is gonna look past them on the schedule

Of course Jason Cambell couldn't get anything done. Hell he had 4 different offensive schemes/coaches in 5 years. Name one QB that has done that and had success. It takes several years under the same system to be decent.

Cambell has the ability to be successful. He just needs to stay in one system that fits his style of play. I think it would be funny if he went to Philly.

With that being said, a name and stats on paper mean nothing. It all depends on if they play well together. In most cases there are too many chiefs and not enough indians. Pun intended.

McNabb, IF he stays healthy will have an ok year. Nothing special. They will go 8-8 this year and miss the playoffs as usual. Then all the fans can go back to wearing paper bags over thier heads and continue dressing like fat transvestite pigs.

Yes.. I agree with everything you are saying.. but rebuilt O-Line??? Don't get ahead of yourself.. our only significant O-Line transactions this off-season have been the retirements of Chris Samuels and Joe Bugel...

We really can't afford to neglect that area.. in yet another off-season..

well there is a reason he was still available,Willie Parker is washed up.....he's lost a couple steps lately..... I am however curious to see what kind of rotation they use with Portis/Parker/Johnson, it could be pretty effective. And I think the McNaab trade is good for them, IF they can get him to sign an extension. Short term definitely helps them though, and hurts the Eagles

I'm hearing the Redskins have considered trading Albert Haynesworth?? I'm also hearing that they are switching to a 3-4 defense, and he will definitely be starting nose tackle for them this season. I think it would be foolish to trade away a player that has already cost them $30,000,000+.. and a player that could be the anchor of a Top 10.. maybe even Top 5 defense..

Enjoy McNabb throwing over receivers and at their feet. Good QB...just not championship-caliber IMO.
