Default Replace 03 WRX Turbo with 04 Forester Turbo?

The turbo in my 03 wrx needs to be replaced now. I just noticed that I'm not getting any more boost, so it's just sitting in my garage until it gets fixed. I am trying to find a used one in my area, but the only luck is a turbo off of a 2004 Forester. My questions is will it be a direct replacement? I have done some searching and found people who put the wrx turbo on the forester with no problems, but nothing about a forester turbo on a wrx.

Hey,

As long as the turbo is a td04 it will work just fine! You could also check out the for sale section on here, they're available all the time!

Correct. BTDT.

Just make sure you swap the WG actuator from your old turbo onto the FXT turbo. They work at different spring pressures.

is the WG actuator fairly easy to swap out? i need my car fixed asap so would rather pick up the forester turbo locally than wait for a turbo to be shipped to me

It's two bolts and a c-clip. It only takes a few minutes to swap them.

Also, swap the restrictor pill. It's in one of the boost hoses attached to the turbo.

just finished swapping my turbo today! first time i've ever done something like this and i'm glad everything worked out fine. it's a little bit slower right now, when i switched the WG actuators i unknowingly loosened the actuator arm, so i will turn that in a little bit tomorrow
