Default Question about the Subaru VIP Program...

EDIT: Yes, I have searched NASIOC forums before posting this question...

I have done some research on the Subaru VIP Program, and I am interested in using it to order a 2011 WRX or STI. I looked into various groups whos members are eligible to receive VIP discounts (AAAS, Leave No Trace, etc), and it seems that each organization has different "levels" of membership.

Taking "Leave No Trace" as an example, the following are membership options:

$20 Introductory
$35 Friend
$50 Supporter
$100 Advocate
$171.60 Wanderer
$250 Tracker
$500 Trail Finder
$1000 Explorer

I think this organization is great, I believe in their cause, but I have no intention of being actively involved in it (other than to get the Subaru VIP discount). Can I just pay the $20 for the Introductory membership and still be eligible for the VIP Program (after 6 months)?

I signed up for the kayake club vip program. you need to be a member for at least 6 months before you qualify. also not sure if the STi is a part of that program. You may find more info on Subaru.com

I signed up to the IMBA today. I will be purchasing a 2011 STI Hatch as well.

Anyone know if the 2011's will be offered for the VIP Program??

Do you know if membership in IMBA requires anything besides a donation? I am not looking to become an active member of any association, I just want the Subaru VIP discounts...

Also, are there different levels of membership? If so which did you pick? I'm not able to access the IMBA page right now.

I do not believe you have to be an active member.

I did the standard $30 membership. They said they will send me my membership details in the mail. I do not think there is nothing else you need to do. You just give a $30 donation and become a "member". I'm new to this to but I did not read any requirements on their site.

Do you know when the 2011 STI's will be available for VIP pricing?

I contacted a dealer about it today, havent heard back. However, this is the same person that didn't know the 2011 WRX/STI had been released or that it was different from the 2010 at all.

Let me know what they say about it. You might want to contact a few dealers and try to get a "correct" answer that way.

I got access to the VIP program for my 2010 STi order, which subsequently became a 2011 STi order when SOA couldn't fill it. I got it through knowing the owner of a dealer though.

I believe it is too early to know the answer, since pricing has not been released yet, but I will let you know if I hear anything.

No man, sorry... dealers only get X amount of VIP passes per year (as I'm told), so they don't hand them out easily.

It's cool, figured it was worth a shot. Did you go to Hamilton or Kunkles? I've been to both and wasn't impressed with either one.

If you weren't impressed with either, there's Day Subaru in Pittsburgh you could try. Anyways, pricing isn't available right now. From talking to the SOA Eastern Distribution Manager (called me to inform me of my canceled 2010 STi order), Subaru will begin accepting orders for 2011s on April 12th... however there's no word on pricing, options, or packages yet.

Asking if XXXX Subaru will be eligible for VIP pricing is worthless here as it changes. Restrictions will be physically typed on your VIP paperwork, THEN you'll know. DO NOT rely on internet rumor!!! Rely on black and white.

+1. My VIP is secured through a deposit and the names and signatures of both me and the dealer. I know that when I worked for Boeing, VIP pricing was offered to employees but there was a clause that there was no haggling involved (as is the VIP pricing I'm currently getting). All VIP guarantees is 1 price (at X below invoice), and that that price will be offered with no negotiations involved on either side (trade-in is irrelevant).

Anyone can get a dealer under invoice with the right amount of effort. I got a Nissan dealer to over $2k below invoice on a 370Z just by being persistent and going to the dealer with a documented trail of what the going rates are across the country and what the dealer actually paid for the car (taking the invoice - the dealer holdback which they'll receive).

Why not just use a NASIOC dealer who gives better pricing than the VIP program to all NASIOC'ers?

I think VIP pricing is good when there are no dealer incentives or hold backs. I got a quote on a 2010 Subaru STI for 1.5k under invoice. Would the VIP Program beat this price? I don't how you can get more off a 2010 STI using the VIP Program since I am new to it.

I plan on using the VIP pricing on the 2011 STI. I highly doubt a NASIOC dealer will sell you a 2011 STI under invoice.

The dealers in my area are very few and far between. I have been looking for a WRX or STI for the last 4 months, and in that time my local dealers have only had 1 STI and 0 WRX's on the lot. They were not even willing to go below MSRP, let alone below dealer invoice.

Yes you can go at/maybe under invoice, but you won't be able to get the dealer to dissolve the holdback, that's cash for them. You try and take that away from the dealer, and they will dry up like a menstruating virgin on prom night,

It's not just in the SW PA region... from what I was told, there were only 2 STi's in a 150 mile radius of Greensburg... and that was over 3 weeks ago. Subaru's last shipment of 2010 Imprezas has shipped from Japan and should be in Baltimore soon (if they aren't already).

When SOA gave me the option of taking a different color STi to replace my 2010 order which they couldn't fill, they found 1 STi which they could give me and it was destined for a dealership in Florida from Baltimore.

Check out this thread. I picked up my 2010 WRX from Gary at Manchester Subaru in the beginning of February.

SOA VIP doesn't work for WRX any more???

Ok I'm looking for a 2012 wrx pre and been talking to dealers all day. I found the one I want in AZ and he said as of May 1st 2012 SOA VIP pricing will exclude WRX and STI...and BRZ!

Everyone else I spoke too said they would accept it.

Whats up with that? Does he not want to deal with a girl from NJ or VIP or was there a real change?

Read post #14. Black and white will tell you....not the internet. Most likely the only exclusion will be the BRZ as they traditionally exclude the new models for the first year.
