Default Shift Knob won't go into Reverse

I made a mistake and purchased a Fortune Auto Ti Shift Knob in 12x1.25, which is the right size for a Subaru, but not for a Subaru STI. Since the shift knob doesn't have a cutout for the STi's reverse lockout collar, I'm not able to go into reverse.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I was thinking of either putting something inside the knob pre-drilled hole, so It wont screw all the way in and therefore there will be enough room for the reverse collar. Or maybe just drill the hole bigger some how ... Anyways if you can give me some suggestions, that'd be great. Thank you.

Why dont you return it and get the proper knob? In the mean time use your stock knob.

I had a similar problem, but it was a knob from my old car that I wanted to use. I brought it to a machine shop and had the bottom opened up. It looks the same from the outside, but not it fits the lockout collar.

Don't screw it on all the way.................., if you want it to fit snug just screw a cut off bolt into it, just don't plan on getting it back out lol. Fill out your profile too, Dec. 07......
