I'm also looking forward to the Moto2 class. It could provide some great scrapping.

Yep...I just have a feeling it's going to be a good year for racing in general, 2 wheels and 4!

Was the race in HD? It was definitely in better quality than last year. I stopped following it because the transfers were in such poor quality then.

Rossi breaks leg in Mugello practice crash

Valentino Rossi is taken to hospital after his Mugello crashValentino Rossi will miss his home grand prix at Mugello after sustaining a fractured right shin bone in a violent crash in final practice this morning.

The reigning champion, who had already been struggling with shoulder injuries following a motocross crash in April, had a high side at the Biondetti esses 15 minutes from the end of the session.

Rossi landed awkwardly on his right leg and was clearly in agony in the gravel trap. He had to be taken away from the scene on a stretcher.

"Valentino Rossi has suffered a displaced and exposed fracture of his right tibia after crashing in practice for the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello this morning," said a statement from the Yamaha team.

"The reigning world champion crashed his Fiat Yamaha M1 at Turn 13, the fast chicane at the top of the hill, and was taken immediately to the circuit medical centre for x-rays.

"Further information will be made public as soon as a more detailed examination has been completed.

"Rossi will not take any further part in this weekend's Italian Grand Prix."

This will be the first time in Rossi's MotoGP career that he has had to miss a race due to injury, and is a severe blow to his 2010 title hopes, with his team-mate Jorge Lorenzo already holding the points lead thanks to two wins from the three races held so far this year.

AUTOSPORT understands that Rossi will be taken to the Central Traumatological Hospital in Florence for surgery this afternoon, where his open wound will be operated on by Dr Roberto Uzzi. He has been flown to Florence's nearby Careggi Hospital for a thorough assessment first.

Medical sources at Mugello have suggested that the normal recovery period for such an injury would be two months - but have pointed out that fellow riders Toni Elias and Max Sabbatani were able to ride again within 40 days following similar accidents. However even such a rapid recovery would potential rule Rossi out of at least four races.

Yeah, nasty break too. Bum deal.

I wonder if Yamaha will draft Spies into the top team, or bring someone else in for the races Rossi misses.

I would think they'd go for Edwards, safe pair of hands and he knows the team.

Holy crap, a driver actually admitted he made a mistake!

Quote:
"I blew the start, but picked a few guys off," said Hayden. "But coming into a downhill corner, where I was making up time, I pushed too hard. That one's on me, rider error. The set-up wasn't great, so I was just trying to ride through it."
Thats the first time I've heard someone not use the term "we" when they mess up in a while.

Those GP10s really have front end problems ... if Casey isn't falling, its Nicky.

Hopefully the switch back to last years front suspension will help Casey out.

I'm a massive Stoner fan, but I really hope Val recovers quickly - it's just not the same out there without him

There are rules in place now that don't let a rookie ride on a top factory team.

If it's going to be anyone, it'll be Edwards... but I wouldn't rule out a move to snag one of the other vets from a sat-team or perhaps calling up someone from WSB that's a former GP rider and who currently rides for Yamaha (wonder who? ).

It just won't be Spies b/c he's a rookie, unless rules are bent.

So when Rossi comes back, he can flog his remaining engines while all the other guys have to baby theirs right?

Probably, but he'll be so many races down that it won't matter.

Well, racing is racing. I know what you're saying but it shouldn't mean any less to become champ when Rossi was not among your competitors for a good chunk of the season.

Besides, Lorenzo was going to beat him this year anyway.
