Default Stock 06-07 Wheels on an 04 WRX Wagon - Upgrade?

Basically, will the stock wheels from 2006-7 WRX's be an upgrade from the 2004 16" wheels? I've been researching, and found that the 17" wheels from 06-07 are much heavier than the 16" ones from 2004 (21 lbs vs ~16lbs I think). My thought process was basically to pick up a set of the 2006-7 rims to put summer tires on, and use for autocross/DD, while putting snow tires on my 16" stock wheels for rally-x/winter driving. The reason I was considering the 17" 06/07 wheels was mostly for price, and aesthetics, but if they'll hurt performance, then I'd rather just stay on my stockers.

Sparknotes: Would the 06/07 stock WRX wheels be an upgrade for tarmac and daily driving, or are they too much heavier than stock 04 wheels?

Heavier wheels = downgrade.

For auto-x, acceleration is pretty important, so sticking with the lighter wheel/tire combo is the better move.

Buy the stickiest tire you can afford in a 205/50-16 or 215/50-16 and go kick some butt.

Thanks for the advice! Something's come up, so it looks like I won't be buying wheels for while.. but when I do get to it, is there any reason (besides looks) to go to 17" or should I just try to find an extra set of the stock 16" (so I can swap wheels on and off, not tires)?
