The rear bumper beam and bumper cover did not change at all from 1993 to 2001- if the Bomex cover fits a 93-99, it will fit your 2001 without need to change the bumper beam. You still could do so for weight savings of course however
. The STi 6 bumper cover will not fit over the stock rear bumper beam for instance, but it was made to fit over the JDM (what we call the lightweight) bumper beam- sounds like that Bomex rear bumper cover was made for the US rear bumper beam, so you're all set.Brian http://www.northursalia.com http://www.imprezamods.com http://www.scoobymods.com (coming soon) http://www.deniedmywarranty.org ![]() |

Installation of both should take about an hour or two at the most. I did mine in an hour. Simple hand tools will suffice.

If they told you it fits a 93-99 JDM bumper only, then yes you need to put the "lightweight" beam on to make the bumper fit

Just installed the front lightweight bumper beam on my RS last night. Took me about 2 hours due to the lack of proper tools. Make sure you have wrench extensions to reach the bolts by the battery ( I had to connect 2 extensions to do the job). Also, try to have a clip remover for the wheel well liners otherwise you'll end up breaking some of them to get to the fasteners holding up the bumper skin. Now, to the important stuff . . . DO NOT do this mod if safety is a concern to you. The OEM beam is big and hefty (make sure you disconnect the foglights and turn indicators before removing the beam or have someone help you). The lightweight beam is . . . lightweight and will afford a very, very minimal amount of protection in a frontal crash at any speed. A collision at 1 mph will dent the LW beam. I kid you not. I had to use both hands to lift the OEM beam. I could lift the LW beam with 2 fingers. That being said, if you're serious about losing weight and safety is just a word in the dictionary, then have fun installing the beam. As of yet, no appreciable difference in handling.

I had the Light weight on my last car and I bumped a car at a top speed of 3mph and ended up braking one of my head lamps and crumpleing my hood along with puncturing my AC condensor. The grill was also cracked and destroyed. So just fair warning what should have been an oops and maybe a scratch was a OH MY GOD MY BABY! Oh and the car I bumped not a scatch or anything.
