Default Tanabe df210 questions.

Hey all

So last fall I bought these new, thinking I would install these in the spring.
Now after reading about lowering springs and stock struts I am not sure I want to put these on. Right now I am also running stock rims but will be upgradeing to 18" soon.

The car is a 2005 Subaru RS 2.5 with about 77,000KM on it.

Can anyone let me know if this would be a good idea or not. Or what their thoughts are.

Thanks

I'll buy them! But seriously, you'll read so many mixed reviews of people saying they blow struts and other people have had them on stock struts for 30,000+ miles.

The DF's are the lowest drop Tanabe offers.

DFs are a bad. They are Tanabe's take on Tein S-Techs. GFs are what you want.

DF210s are a pretty substantial drop, but somewhat mild compared to a handful of other common springs. The problem with dropping is twofold: higher springrates that OEM struts aren't designed for and the resulting shorter usable stroke that your suspension travels through.

With the DF210s you can expect both higher spring rates and you will also be sitting further into your struts stroke. Both of these changes work together to put more stress on the struts which is obvious because Subaru did not design them with a drop in mind.

So will you blow your struts out? It depends on how you drive, of course. Lowering will just exacerbate wear and tear, just like driving hard. If you don't drive hard, you're struts likely won't wear out much more quickly. I've been on GF210s since the fall and don't have any strut clunk or any noticeable issues at all. I do plan to move on to adjustable struts at some point, however...
