Default 09 wrx hella supertones install question

ok i searched but couldnt find the exact answer to my question. if connect the stupertones to the horn in my grill will they sound when i lock the car. like if i connect the supertones to the horn in the grill and not the bumper. Is there any other draw back to not unplugging the horn then it just sounds a different tone and that it might start earlier then the other horns

The Hellas would go off any time your normal horn would go off......
The only way to get around that would be to rig up some sort of manual toggle in the wiring to switch between horns and run it to the dash, which would be more trouble than it's worth for a set of $60 horns.
BTW,
IF you get a harness like this, Hella horn hookup is as simple as it gets.
It uses the Hela relay and you then just have to
a) plug one lead into the factory horn connection
b) run lead to positive battery terminal
c) run the last lead to the negative battery terminal
The two connection posts on each of the horn bodies are not specific to pos/neg. You just have to make sure you connect one positive lead and one negative lead on the rear of each horn in order to complete the circuit.

I have Super Tones in my 07', they do not go off when locking the car. I believe that is a separate horn more towards the ground/bumper.

If I hit the panic button (or the lock button a lot) then they go off, but only for a short beep. I don't understand the 2nd part of your question.

There are three horns in an 09. 1 in the passenger side front bumper/wheel well area (difficult to get to) , 1 in the center of the grill, and the one for the door lock I believe low front drivers side. (This one you leave alone and do NOTHING to).

Use the Subimods harness , or make your own, and just use the POS+ lead going to the OE center horn to power the relay and you'll be fine.

No they will not go off when you lock the door, that would just be annoying.

Indeed.. that's why I"m supprised it seems like the OP wants them to go off when they lock it.

Although, my picup does that... and it's fun to scare my girls when they walk infront of the truck... It has a pretty loud horn stock.

But then they won't go off when you mash the horn on the steering wheel? It will only work when you lock the car. I assume that if your car alarm were to ever go off all horns sound off simultaneously, so I am not fully understanding your reasoning.

I have the same question. I installed a set on my 05 wrx and the hella horns don't chirp when I lock/unlock the doors for the key fob. The factory chirper chirps but not the hella horns. The factory chirper is behind the grill in front of the radiator. The chirper has two wires going to it a blue and red wire and a orange and yellow wire. How do i wire this to the hellas to make them chirp when i lock/unlock the doors?

ok thanks that what i wanted to know. just wanted to make sure that there was still a sound when i locked the car with the key fob. im just making my own ( i have some 12 gage wiring laying around and other parts, but probably going to have to pain the wiring black to make it look nice)

This is wired in series, better yet install them in parralel.

...and a lil' video of the install.

Then add some freaking lights to them bad boys...

The lights are 100% illegal in most states.

I clicked on the Subimods wiring harness link. Its only 25 bucks. If I had to do my horn again I would buy that harness. It's hard to get all the wire and connectors and do it yourself for that price. Plus the time of making the harness.

yea the wiring harness is a good price but i rather buy something else for $25 dollars. nice lights i hella would do that and then install a switch inside so i could turn them on and off if i have to.

actually got another question how does spray paint stick to wires. my wire is gray and im thinking about painting black.

For the price of the can of paint you can buy the black wire. The paint won't stick any how...well it will until you rub or bump or move it, then it'll come off.

Interesting, they sell glow in the dark spray paint and I also know of a powdercoat shop that can powdercoat to glow in the dark. Seems easier to do that than more lights.

Pretty unique though.

What type of lights did you use to do this?

I went on ebay and got a strip led (red) for like 5 bucks. Wired it into the running lights on the drivers side and will be adding a switch in soon to control it. These are illegal in most places. Definatly cool in parking lots though.
