Default Trunk mounted bike rack

Im thinking of a trunk mounted bike rack that i can swap btwn my car and wife's car. Just wondering if itll scratch/damage the paint/car in anyway...?

My car is a 07 Sti. I have the original spoiler, but with 2 spoiler stiffies in the middle.....so this may not work? Not sure if theres enough room btwn the 2 stiffies. I have no knowledge of trunk mounts, lol.

Opting out for roof racks or installing a hitch as i need it to be versatile to switch btwn 2 cars.

Finally, is there a big difference btwn a lower end Tule, Yakima VS one from Canadian Tire?
Are there locks on all the racks to prevent thief from lifting the bike off the rack?

Thanks.

The only one that would have a chance of fitting would be the saris bones rack with those wing stiffies. When you look at a Yakima or thule you'll see why.

Yes they will scratch your car.

So it depends on what you want to spend your money on. Cheap out now and get a rack that will scratch your car and will most likely end up costing you 500-600 in repairing and painting your bumper and trunk (on two cars) or you can fork out some cash now and get hitched installed on both cars (200-300 each is a fair guess) and greatly reduce your chances of damaging your cars.

I use to have a g35 coupe with a trunk bike rack and it scratched the spoiler. Also there weren't much security. When I got my Impreza hatch first thing I got was a roof rack. Now I don't have to worry about it and I can also lock my bike down to the rack.
