Default My Friends 98 Eclipse GS-T Turbo Problem.

Since this is a turbo problem I figure I could ask here and get a well educated response.

My friend has 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T with a 16G turbo. When he gets into boost, there is a high pitched, loud whistling sound. Any ideas that could cause this and how to fix it?

Thanks,
Ricky.

So he is getting boost? Same readings as previously? (He does have a gauge, right?)

Could be a vacuum leak of some kind, although if the boost gauge reading is the same, maybe the turbo is on the outs. How many miles on the 16G?

Ricky,

The sound you are hearing could be the result of numerous things. The most likely case is that there is a bag of dicks stuck in the boost line.

All the best,

sic has the right idea. I've had a similar problem and a bag of dicks is a pain in the ass to deal with.

Leak at the charge piping or exhaust somewhere is my guess.

As a Mitsubishi tech, I can say that your friend's Eclipse is a raging turd car, because ALL Eclipses are.

If you have an 2nd generation AWD TURBO eclipse/talon prepped to STX specs you've got a chance....

...if not you're an idiot
