I drive Hurricane at least once a week. There's a trail at the top that leads to some of the best Mountain Biking in the area.

It's a fun road to drive, except when you get caught behind some fool going 2 mph. I usually just flash the headlights to remind them to use the pull-offs to let people go by.

I made it out to the cruise with my car, my friend's Cosmic Blue Mazdaspeed 3, and his buddy's old Integra. It was fun, aside from the accident caused by the idiot on the sport bike, and the fact that there were TONS of idiots doing stupid crap and driving like they were playing Burnout Paradise on their Xbox. I'm really surprised no one got killed or arrested. Truly some "Dear Neon Driver..." caliber stuff that went on yesterday.

There were TONS of Subarus there. Most of us were very well behaved. I'll have to post some pics later. The only one I really recognize was Remotehuman's car, but there were some other really nice ones, including the nicest 08+ sedan I've seen yet. I got a really good feel for the limits of my car on Hurricane Mountain Road and the Kanc, and it was fun.

Maybe we can get an all-Subie cruise going sometime. It will cut down on the asshattery and keep things simple. When you have 200+ modified cars blasting around mountain roads, you are just asking for trouble. I feel bad for the guys at NEMS that put on the event, because they were trying to raise money for charity, not babysit a bunch of grown men and women act like idiots.

From what I saw people who were right after the accident all stopped on either side of the road to make sure everyone was alright and help clean up and once everyone else started to get there we all stopped on the roadway and pretty much made 4 lanes out of 2 and a few people got out of their cars. after a minute or so we all started moving again.

all the nice cars for the big boys did cruise

There was a guy on a sport bike (he wasn't with the group) weaving in and out of traffic like an idiot, and he hit speeds in the 170+mph range doing this. He was also going that fast in the breakdown lane, and he lost it, and in the mad scramble to avoid hitting the biker, a bunch of other cars smacked into each other. I guess one of the people in the accident had just bought their car too. That one donkey on the bike caused the whole thing by being a jackass.

And as an added bonus, some stupid girl in a black Lumina rear ended a stopped RAV4 in the middle of the mess, and she decided that it would be ok to just park her broken crapbox in the middle of the highway and get out of her car and freak out while emergency vehicles were flying down the highway, almost cancelling her out too.

What a friggin' mess.
