Default Why are people debadging their Subarus?

I don't understand why people are pulling the SUBARU off of the back of thier cars. I'm proud that it's a Subaru. People have never associated performance with Subaru. That's why I think it's cool to show them what's up and have a big shiny blingin' SUBARU on the back. What's the reasoning behind debadging?

it makes it harder for cops to identify....five minutes behind the car trying to figure out what it is...

I think it looks good, not that I'd ever have an issue with owning a Subaru.

This is my own observation only.

Mostly younger rex owners debadged their car. Also they will not wave back or give you an eye contact. This is what I observed after running into a lot of rexs around my state. I think the younger owner like the rex but can't stand the big SUBARU name in the back of the car. I bet you mitsu EVO owner will not remove the big Evolution badge off their EVO.

Ripped mine off because the chrome looked awful on my car, it was a pain to clean, and it looked better. And the main reason was someone tried ripping the 2.5rs logo off so I took them off so no one could have them. I have 2 big gouges where they tried ripping my sti fog covers off too When I get some money I'm gonna put the anthracite I M P R E Z A sticker there

Man, I think it's so cool when people do the wave. I wave to all rex owners and even RS owners when I'm out cruising. It's like an unspoken club. Corvette owners do it too. Sometimes I see old ladies or punk kids driving WRXs though and they never wave.

Damn dude where do you live, Compton? Do you have any bullet holes in your rex? hehe. I would be so damn pissed if someone tried to steal something from my rex. Didn't your alarm go off?

Well, mine is debadged, because I happened to stop by the body shop while they were fixing my trunk, the guy was about to put the S-U-B-A-R-U back on when I walked in... and I'll be honest after seeing right there in front of me on my car with no badge I said.... wow... "ok, you can just leave that off". I think it looks great, very clean.

and I always wave back.

I used to be very anti-debadge.

But after ***** kept happening to my car, I told the body shop to leave the badges off after they were done repairing the keyed area on my back hatch.

No problems since.

21 w/a debadged rex.. but will wave at just about any subie driver that looks interested... and I point out EVERY Subaru to my gf.. it drives her nuts since they're everywhere around here.. hehe.

I took all my badges off... makes people wonder... of course the first thing out there mouth is... "Is that a WRX?" but I always like the cleaner look.... (not saying having subaru on the back is cluttered) its just a personal prefernce. At least I dont have a 2.5rs RA Type R sticker on there. and I wave at other subaru owners... I feel loved

I have the impreza and WRX removed off of mine. The SUBARU is still there, i really have no reason for doing except making the back look a little more symmetric. I resent the comment that "punk kids" don't wave. I'm 20 (though i don't consider myself a punk kid) and i'll wave at any subaru i see. In fact i have scared a couple of people cos i would drive next to them and look at them to see if they're gonna wave. I haven't actually seen anyone that has waved back yet. Am i scary? I have only had the car 3 weeks though.

Alex

I also don't want my badges stolen, but i don't think that would be a problem in my area (even though my mom's jaguar was stolen, different class of car though).

I keep having problems with the people going through their mid life crisis buying the rexes. They are almost always elitist and arrogant, they think their car is best thing ever made. They come to our meets and talk down to everyone's non wrx and will only converse with other rex owners while all us other "punk ass kids" stand around bsing and having fun and causing no trouble.

Well, if you look at some bmw's they debadge theirs. My cousin in fact has a 528i and it's a good car and he debadged it.. it's just preference, nothing more!

For me it's an aesthetic thing, I think the lettering is just so ugly. Same with the orange on the turn signals and brake clusters (yeah old school).

I'm gonna get controversial now though, and say that I'm not really a huge fan of Subaru. I love their engineering, the Impreza is an awesome car (even if the new ones don't look that good), and the rally tradition is great. Subaru really is a living legend in the rally scene. I don't like any of the other cars the company makes though, I think their advertising campaigns have always been poor, and the company has a negative outside image. Face it, it's the truth. I love my RS, I can't imagine owning any other car, but I think the letters are ugly (on any car), and I like when people don't know what I'm driving.

Oh, I forgot, I really don't like the name Subaru either. It's just not very appealing. I don't think very many car brand names are very good though, I think the Germans have the best names, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, etc.

I completely debadged my rear because I am big fan of the "less is more" school of thought...

I also resent the young guy comment. I honk/wave at EVERY WRX I see, and usually I get no love in return. Oh well....

Also, debadging makes waxing the trunk MUCH easier.

Just my 2 cents....

IMHO it looks a lot better...it's easier to wash/wax...and lastly::

I don't feel like being a "moving advertisement"...

Besides..the UK and JDM ReX's have no chrome S U B A R U across their rears...why should we?? ahem... moving advertisement

Retards... why didn't they keep their Hondas??

as an 18 year old that drives a 2000 rs my feelings are that the badging on the back looks like garbage and I am definetly not afraid of ownin a suby i love it to death. I love the way that some people that own subies wave and give head nods i have noticed that alot but alot of these people who cruise in their fancy new rexs never wave or nod its crap. they don't even know what an honor it is to drive a suby let alone a pimped out rex.

Default i love my damn suby

i don't know about you guys, but i'm a 17 year old die hard suby fan. I love that car, and i'm defenitely wanting to debadge my legacy. That red bar that goes accross the back of the car, that says subaru, i want to get it off of there, so that people then have to ask what my car is. It makes you feel so good when people look at it and say "damn dude, what kinda car is that" and then to see the look on their face when you reply with SUBARU BABY.
AND I ALWAYS WAVE. I can't help but chase people down the highway cuz i see the tail lights and know exactly what kinda car it is. I ALWAYS point out to my gf "SUBIE RIGHT THERE, AND THERE!"
she gets so irritated, but the other day, i missed one on the side of the road, and she pointed it out to me, damn girl, no wonder i'm with her.
SUBARU is the best car in the world, i love it and i'll own one for life, but i don't like letters on the back. I want to remove the legacy badge, the 2.5GT, and the AWD badges on teh trunk lid. they just take away from it. How many people kept the sticker on the back that has the name of the dealership they bought there car at? I certainly got rid of that the first time i washed my car (which was the day i bought it).
I"M A PROUD SUBIE DRIVER, AND I ALWAYS WAVE, NO PUNK ASS KID HERE.

The JDM Impreza does not have SUBARU sooooo big on the trunk
They only have a WRX with IMPREZA on the bottm, and small SUBARU next to the key hole... I think it looks very clean and original

I am getting new emblems for my wagon
It will be 20K on the leftside with SUBARU under it
and IMPREZA will take over my SUBARU now
That is how the JDM wagon look like
No "WRX" Wagon in Japan, only "20K"

Bah. I'm 17 and am lucky to be blessed with a WRX. The only other kid who has one doesnt take it for granted either. I wave to almost every WRX and nice RS and only have had a couple waves back, which is too bad. In fact, I get more waves from the old guys who are driving the cobra, 67 vette or other classic cars. Bummer, but I don't really mind, sometimes they like to gun it with me at a stop light, or we'll follow eachother on the back roads.

On an unrelated note, no more break in period! I took the car for a celebratory drive today, damn, the thing is way faster than I thought. Even an extra 1000 rpms adds a buttload of torque. I have to be careful. Took the backroads in 2nd and 3rd gear the whole way. Woo. I also put on my "I support the Police" anti-police sticker.

Anyone know of good pro driver schools in N VA? I wanna learn how to really drive.
