But I sold it.

Default Once the car arrives...

Bit of a snafu on my order... never got processed at SOA or wherever they get processed. The dealership "jumped through hoops" to get me one with only a 2 week delay.

Of course, I found this out 1.5 weeks before my anticipated arrival date.

I digress.

How many miles should the car have on it once it arrives, ready for my hands and feet? Please don't say "Zero!", because we all know that the dealerships have to test the cars, get gas, etc.

5 miles?
10 miles?

For those who are really in the know will I have to be jerk and ask for something for my troubles, or will they do it to make themselves look better? (kind of on the same lines as the Dealership survey) What is a realistic and appropriate "bribe" to make me happy-ier?

They already know that the efforts aren't going unnoticed, but it's what I'd expect them to do anyway, since I sure didn't make the mistakes.

I guess I'll just have to see...

Jon

Default Addition

Don't get me wrong.

I'm PO'd,
upset,
angry,
bewildered,
frustrated,
and whatever other thesarus words you want to add.

But, taking it out on the dealer won't solve anything, and it doesn't get you anywhere, other than voicemail.

So, I'm trying to stay calm and rational.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

No idea about your ordering problem, but here is what I know about mileage.

I picked up a new wrx last week. It arrived at the dealer in early May and was marked hold, so it was never test driven. It had 16 miles on the car. The trip odometer had 12 miles, so I assume that the car arrived with 4 miles and was reset then.

They then took it out for dealer prep the day I bought it, and gave it a full tank and a carwash. I had 20 miles the day I picked it up. The car was NOT test-driven.

That's probably a good estimate. More than 30 and the car has been test driven. Other than that, it's transport and prep mileage.

HODGES was too expensive for me. They were out of the running for me right away. Maybe there service is good, but i wasn't impressed with their price.

Jon- I think what you ask for should depend upon what kind of deal you think you got from them in the first place. If it shows up with less than 40 miles on it, don't even worry about it. I've seen some on the lots with over 100 miles on them. If that's the case, then I would start to wonder how many people abused your car during test drives.

Default heeeeere we go...

Maybe it would not have happened if I spent my money at another dealership. But, I didn't, and that's my choice. Maybe if my experience at Hodges instilled more faith in their system, I would have purchased the car from the most distant dealer I checked out.

But I digress.

The post is really two-fold.

One, what is an acceptable mileage for a new car, right off the truck, with my name on it.

Two, are their standard rescourses for a dealer screw-up like this, ie price break, apology letter from the regional rep, etc., or will I just be on my own to piss and moan all over again?

I think I know the answer to #2.

I got mine with 7 miles on it and it was sittin on the lot for about a week or so. Usually when I went and looked at WRX's that recently arrived, they all had under 10 miles (usually around 5-9). If it has more I'd say it was either test driven or driven around more than necessary (or above average) between transport and your possession. Whatever it is, if it's under 20 it should be fine but the mileage should be pretty low if you ordered it.
